#AETF Week 7: Awards Announced

BOSTON – AETF teams were put to the test this weekend competing against some of the most premier Division I programs as well as professional athletes at meet such as the Historic Millrose games. Most teams will take this upcoming weekend off in preparation for the Championship meet, while a few teams will look to have one final tune up.

In just over a week, all nine schools will descend upon Boston for the 2024-25 America East Indoor Track and Field Championship meet.


2024 #AETF Weekly Award Winners –  Feb. 11 


Male Field Athlete of the Week
Simone Menchini, UAlbany - So., Cossato, italy

  • Menchini recorded his second consecutive 25-foot Long jump performance in as many week to win the 2025 Crimson Elite Invite 

Male Track Athlete of the week
 Hassan Abidi, UAlbany - Sr., Rades, Tunisia
  • Abidi the top collegiate finisher in the 800m at the BU Scarlet & White invite running a Northeast leading time of 1:48.42, which is good for 41st nationally 
  • The senior also ran a leg on the Great Danes 3:15.22 4x400

Male Rookie of the Week
Tooni Ogunyeye, UAlbany - Fr., Brampton, Ontario, Canada
  • Ogunyeye finished second in the 60m at the Crimson Elite invite running the top time in the Northeast, 6.66 
  • His time is good for 40th nationally and 6th in the nation among freshmen 

Female Field Athlete of the Week
Rebeca Valerie Barrientos Alpha, UAlbany - Gr., San Salvador, El Salvador
  • Barrientos Alpha leaped to a a conference leading triple jump of 12.20m
  • Her mark, which is fifth in the northeast,  broke the El Salvador national record 

Female Track Athlete of the week
 Jenna Chan, Binghamton - Gr., Roseland, N.J. 
  • Chan crossed the line first in the 60h to win the Penn State Sykes & Sabock Challenge running a school-record and conference leading time of 8.35 

Female Rookie of the Week
 Nattaly Lindo, UAlbany - Fr., Valley Stream, N.Y.
  • Logged personal bests in both the Weight Throw ( 17.69m) and Shot put ( 13.00m)
  • Her shot put ranks second in the conference, while her weight throw is good for fourth
