Women’s #AEHoops Week 6: Catamounts & Great Danes Keep Winning

BOSTON –  UAlbany and Vermont each recorded wins last week to improve to 9-2 and 9-3, while Bryant earned a Power-4 victory and Maine took down Quinnipiac in a 7-4 week for the league.
 
The Great Danes edged Colgate 55-41 last Monday and then beat Boston U. 62-46 for their seventh straight victory. Vermont won its ninth, 63-46 over Sacred Heart on Sunday while Bryant beat Boston College 80-71.
 
UAlbany (80) owns the best NET rating in the league, while Vermont is right behind at 81. This marks the second straight year UAlbany has been under 100 in December, as they were at 96 last year. Bryant ranks third in NET at 139, while NJIT is at 183 and Maine is fifth at 192. The America East is ranked 14th as a conference in NET this year and owns a 46-42 record against Division I programs this year.
  
The Week That Was
  • The Great Danes were led by Delanie Hill in a pair of wins last week as she averaged 20.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while making nine threes.
  • Vermont won its only game last week thanks to Nikola Priede, who went off for 25 points and 10 rebounds at Sacred Heart.  
  • Bryant earned the program’s first win against a Power 4 program as Mia Mancini scored 28 points to lead the Bulldogs over Boston College.
  • Maine earned its first signature win of the year with a 63-55 victory over Quinnipiac. Adrianna Smith went off for 18 points, 20 rebounds and two blocks in the victory.
  • UMass Lowell earned its fifth win of the year, it’s most non-conference wins since 2019-20, as Jaini Edmonds averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game in two games.
  • Binghamton earned a win in its lone game last week, 69-58 at home against Marist as the Bearcats improved to 6-3.
                                                                                                            
Looking Ahead
  • This week features 12 non-conference contests.
  • Vermont looks to extend its win streak with games at Holy Cross and Drexel, while UAlbany travels south to face No. 14 Vanderbilt and then hosts Hofstra to conclude the week.
  • Bryant plays a pair of home games this week, while Binghamton and New Hampshire are also home.
  • UMass Lowell, UMBC and Maine take to the road for a single game.
  • Conference play begins on Jan. 1, highlighted by a championship game rematch as UAlbany hosts Vermont at 2 p.m.

Player of the Week
Mia Mancini, Bryant – Jr., Guard, Mansfield, Mass.
  • Posted 28 points, five rebounds and two assists in an 80-71 win over Boston College.
  • Scored 17 second-half points and went 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 32 seconds to hold off the Eagles.
  • This is Mancini’s first #AEHoops Player of the Week of her career.
 
 
Rookie of the Week
Carletta Bennett, Binghamton – Fr., Guard, Brampton, Ontario
  • Scored 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting in an 11-point win over Marist.
  • Added three rebounds, one steal and one block in the win.
  • This is Bennett’s first #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
