Women’s #AEHoops Week 9: UAlbany & Maine Start Perfect

BOSTON – Following the first week of #AEHoops action, defending champion Maine and UAlbany are the lone unbeaten squads after a pair of impressive victories on Thursday and Saturday.
  
The Week That Was
  • UAlbany stated conference play by snapping a five-game losing streak to Vermont. The Great Danes led 32-6 late in the first half and held off a late UVM run for the 64-55 victory. The followed that up with a 53-39 win at UMass Lowell on Saturday.
  • Maine outlasted UMass Lowell 54-39 in its opener and then shot 62% and scored 46 second-half points against Bryant to win 87-64.
  • NJIT won its second straight contest by outscoring Binghamton 17-2 in the final nine minutes of regulation on the way to a 58-49 victory.
  • The Catamounts rebounded from their opening loss for a 72-52 win over UNH, while Bryant won its opener 61-49 against the Wildcats.
  • Binghamton is 1-1 in league play after beating UMBC 60-50 on Saturday.
 
Looking Ahead
  • The Black Bears are on the road at Binghamton Thursday and UAlbany on Saturday in a pair of tough road contests. UNH plays the same two teams, facing the Great Danes on Thursday and Bearcats on Saturday.
  • Vermont hosts UMass Lowell at 11 a.m. on Thursday in its school game before welcoming Bryant on Saturday.
  • NJIT also played twice this week, traveling to UMBC on Thursday and then hosting UMass Lowell on Saturday.

The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+ or ESPN3, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. Player & Rookie of the Week
Olivia Kulyk, NJIT – Fr., Guard, Edinboro, Pa.
  • Had career-highs of 21 points and 12 rebounds in a 58-49 victory over Binghamton.
  • Hit four threes and also added two assists with one steal as NJIT started league play 1-0.
  • This is Kulyk’s first career #AEHoops Player of the Week honor and fourth Rookie of the Week honor.
