BOSTON – It was a night of runs and comebacks on the opening night of #AEHoops action as only one team held onto its first quarter lead to come away with a victory on Thursday evening.
Maine 54, UMass Lowell 39 – Box Score
The River Hawks jumped out to an early 10-8 lead after the first quarter on the defending champions. However, the Black Bears took control by outscoring UML 29-17 in the middle two quarters on the way to a 15-point victory. Three players scored in double figures, led by Asta Blauenfeldt with 16 points, four rebounds and one steal.
NJIT 58, Binghamton 49 – Box Score
Binghamton led 19-14 after one quarter, 30-26 at the half and then 47-41 with nine minutes left in regulation. The Highlanders went on a massive 17-2 run over the final nine minutes of regulation to pull out the home victory. Freshman Olivia Kulyk led the way with 21 points, 12 rebounds and two assists.
Bryant 61, New Hampshire 49 – Box Score
The Wildcats came out hot, leading 17-9 after one quarter. Bryant responded with a run and outscored UNH 41-26 in the second half to snap the team’s five-game losing streak. Mia Mancini paced the team with 23 points and five boards while Nia Scott added ten points and ten rebounds.
UAlbany 64, Vermont 55 – Box Score
The Great Danes led 16-4 after one quarter and stretched the lead to 32-6 midway through the second. Vermont fought back and eventually closed the gap to just seven in the final three minutes of regulation before falling by nine. Kayla Cooper filled up the stat sheet with 17 points, four rebounds, three blocks and three steals.
Conference play continues this Saturday with four more contests. Action begins at 1 p.m.
