Men's #AEHoops Week 12: Bryant, Maine, UMBC Post Unbeaten Weeks

BOSTON – Bryant and Maine both extended win streaks last week and sit atop the conference standings as #AEHoops. The Bulldogs (6-0) and Black Bears (5-1) both extend their win streaks last week while UMBC also won twice. All America East games can be watched on ESPN+.  
 
The Week That Was
  • Bryant beat UNH and Binghamton last week to extend its win streak to six games.
  • Maine extended its win streak to five with a thrilling 86-85 overtime at UMass Lowell on Thursday. The Black Bears trailed by five with 30 seconds remaining in the extra session and scored the game’s final six points to pull out the win.  
  • UMBC won twice on the road last week, winning at UAlbany and Vermont, the latter an 80-63 victory at Patrick Gym.
  • UAlbany, UMass Lowell and Vermont also picked up wins last week.
 
The Week Ahead
  • Thursday’s Bryant at UMBC matchup will air on ESPNU at 7 p.m.
  • Maine visits Vermont on Saturday and looks to snap a 28-game losing skid to the Catamounts.
 
Need to Know
  • Bryant has won six-straight games and is 6-0 in #AEHoops play for the first time.
  • Maine has won five games in a row since dropping its league opener. Its 4-1 start is its best since the 2010-11 season.
  • The Black Bears’ Kellen Tynes ranks second in the nation averaging 3.3 steals per game.
  • UMass Lowell's Max Brooks ranks second in the country in field goal percentage (.720) and eighth in blocked shots per game (2.6).
  • Vermont’s TJ Hurley ranked third in the county in free throw percentage (.942).
  • NJIT’s Tariq Francis leads the league averaging 18.1 points per game.

Player of the Week

Quion Burns, Maine – Sr., Forward, White Plains, N.Y.
  • Scored a career-high 28 points in Maine’s overtime win at UMass Lowell.
  • Had 17 of his 28 points in the second half and overtime.
  • Pulled down eight rebounds.
  • This is Burns first career #AEHoops Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week

Martin Somerville, UMass Lowell – Fr., Guard, Bowie, Md.
  • Averaged 12.5 points and 4.5 assists in two games.
  • Had 18 points and six  assists in a win at UNH on Saturday.
  • This is Somerville’s seventh #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
