Women's #AEHoops Week 11: Four Teams Post Unbeaten Weeks

BOSTON – UAlbany, New Hampshire and Maine all won twice this week while Vermont won its lone game as the women’s #AEHoops season moved past the quarter mark. The Great Danes sit atop the standings at a perfect 6-0, while the Catamounts are close behind in second at 4-1.Maine slides into third place at 4-2 while New Hampshire was able to secure their first two conference wins of the season.

Thursday's Recap
  • UAlbany started the week with a 55-40 victory over Bryant and followed it up with a dominant performance, including over 20 total assists, on the road to victory against Binghamton.
  • UNH went a perfect 2-0 this week taking down UMBC on Thursday. The Wildcats led by as many as 22 points before securing the victory. On Saturday, four Wildcats scored in double digits on their way to take down NJIT 70-48.
  • Maine had an impressive weekend as it took down a previously undefeated NJIT on Thursday. Caroline Bornemann tallied a career-high 34 points and reached the 1,000-point milestone while defeating NJIT, 71-58. The Black Bears had a balanced attack as they defeated UMBC 61-47 later in the week.
  • Bornemann averaged 20.0 points and 13.0 rebounds on the week to earn America East Player of the Week honors.
  • Vermont won its lone game of the week, downing Binghamton, 55-46, on Thursday to earn its fourth-straight win.
  • Bryant was able to bounce back on the road against UMass Lowell. After closing the third quarter on a 13-3 run, the Bulldogs secured a 64-43 victory to finish 1-1 in conference play for the week.
 
Looking Ahead
  •  Bryant (2-3) welcomes New Hampshire (2-4) on Thursday for a 5 p.m. matchup between two teams coming off strong weeks.  
  • Also on Thursday, NJIT (3-2) hosts Vermont (4-1) while UMBC welcomes UAlbany and Maine faces UMass Lowell.
  • On Saturday, New Hampshire welcomes UMass Lowell and UAlbany is at NJIT. Bryant plays at Binghamton and UMBC welcomes Vermont.

  • UAlbany is off to a 6-0 start in league play for the third-straight season.
  • The Great Danes are ranked 25th in the College Insider Women’s Mid-Major Top 25.
  • Kayla Cooper was named to the 15-player mid-season watch list for the Her Hoops Stats Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year.
  • Vermont has won four-straight games after dropping four in a row.
  • Caroline Bornemann became the 26th player in Maine history to join the 1,000-point club on Thursday.
  • Maine’s Olivia Rockwood was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 'So You Want To Be A Coach' program.
  • UMass Lowell’s Sydney Watkins ranks 15th nationally averaging 3.1 steals per game.
  • Vermont’s Keira Hanson ranks 19th nationally shooting 44.7 percent from three-point land.

Player of the Week
Caroline Bornemann, Maine – Gr.., Guard/Forward, Hørsholm, Denmark
  • Averaged 21.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game in a 2-0 week.
  • Posted a 34 point, 13 rebound, and six- assist performance as Maine took down NJIT 71-58 on Thursday.
  • Bornemann chipped in 8 points, 11 boards, & two steals in another win over UMBC, 61-47.
  • This is Bornemann’s first #AEHoops Player of the Week honor this season and the first for Maine.
 
Rookie of the Week
Martina Borrellas, UAlbany – Fr., Guard, Barcelona, Spain
  • Averaged 3.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 43% from the floor in just 36 total minutes in two wins.
  • Had two points, five rebounds and three steals in a victory over Bryant, 55-40.
  • Came through with five points, five boards and one block in an 24-point win over Binghamton.
  • This is Borrellas’s second #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor this season.
