Men's #AEHoops Week 11: Bryant, Maine Extend Win Streaks With Perfect Weeks

BOSTON – Bryant and Maine both extended win streaks last week and sit atop the conference standings as #AEHoops play hit the quarter pole. The Bulldogs (4-0) and Black Bears (4-1) each won twice last week to extend their win streaks to four games. Four other teams won once last week with UAlbany, New Hampshire, NJIT and Vermont also picking up wins. All America East games can be watched on ESPN+.

  • Bryant averaged 87.0 points per game last week in wins over UAlbany and UMass Lowell.
  • Earl Timberlake averaged 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 4.0 blocks to earn America East Player of the Week honors.
  • Maine extended its win streak to four with two wins last week as it knocked off NJIT and UMBC on the road. The 25-point win at UMBC on Saturday was its largest margin of victory in league play under Chris Markwood.
  • Vermont won its lone game of the week, beating Binghamton, 72-64, on Thursday behind a career-high 26 points from TJ Hurley. The Catamounts have won 22-straight matchups vs. the Bearcats.
  • UAlbany earned its first win in three games and improved 2-3 in league play with a 70-65 comeback win at Binghamton on Saturday.
  • UNH beat UMBC on Thursday to post its second-straight league win before falling to NJIT on Saturday.
  • The win over UNH was the Highlanders’ first conference win of the season.
 
The Week Ahead
  • Maine visits UMass Lowell on Thursday in the game of the week. The Black Bears have won four straight and sit in second place in the league standings at 4-1 while UMass Lowell is in fourth place at 2-2 and has lost just once at home all season.
  • The River Hawks have a two-game homestand this week along with UAlbany and Vermont.
  • UNH seeks its third win in its last four games when it hosts first-place Bryant on Thursday.
 
Need to Know
  • Bryant has won four-straight games and is 4-0 in #AEHoops play for the second-straight year.
  • Maine has won four games in a row since dropping its league opener. Its 4-1 start is its best since the 2010-11 season.
  • The Jan. 30 Bryant at UMBC matchup will on ESPNU at 7 p.m.
  • The Black Bears’ Kellen Tynes ranks second in the nation averaging 3.4 steals per game.
  • UMass Lowell's Max Brooks ranks third in the country in field goal percentage (.701) and sixth in blocked shots per game (2.7).
  • Bryant’s Rafael Pinzon ranks sixth nationally shooting 46.2 percent from three-point land.
  • Vermont’s TJ Hurley ranked third in the county in free throw percentage (.942).
  • NJIT’s Tariq Francis leads the league averaging 18.1 points per game.

Player of the Week

Earl Timberlake, Bryant – Sr., Forward, Washington, D.C.
  • Stuffed the stat sheet last week averaging 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 4.0 blocks in a 2-0 week for Bryant.
  • Shot 72 percent from the floor (13-of-18).
  • Nearly had a triple-double in a win at UAlbany on Thursday, contributing 21 points, nine rebounds and eight assists and also added four blocks.
  • Had 14 points, 18 rebounds, five assists and four blocks in a dominant win over UMass Lowell on Saturday.
  • This is Timberlake’s first #AEHoops Player of the Week honor of the season and fifth of his career.
 
Rookie of the Week

Khalil Badru, New Hampshire – Fr., Guard, New Britain, Conn.
  • Averaged a double-double of 13.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in two games last week.
  • Shot 61 percent from the field (11-of-18).
  • Helped UNH beat UMBC on Thursday by contributing 10 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Scored a career-high 16 points and added 10 boards vs. NJIT on Saturday.
  • This is Badru’s first career #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
