Men's #AEHoops Jan. 18 Recap

BOSTON – Two teams extended win streaks and two others earned much-needed wins in Saturday’s men’s #AEHoops action. Bryant and Maine stayed atop the standings with blowout wins while UAlbany and NJIT earned hard-fought victories to snap losing skids.

Maine 87, at UMBC 62 – Box Score
Maine scored the game’s first 14 points and never looked back to earn its fourth-straight win. At 4-1, the Black Bears are off to their best start in league play since the 2010-11 season. A.J. Lopez scored a game-high 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting as part of a 56 percent shooting display as a team. Quion Burnes added 19 as five Black Bears scored in twin figures. Marcus Banks’ 13 points led the Retrievers.
 
at Bryant 85, UMass Lowell 62  – Box Score
Bryant held UMass Lowell to just 29 percent shooting and had a +17 advantage on the glass to stay perfect in #AEHoops play at 4-0. Barry Evans led Bryant with 24 points while Earl Timberlake stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, 18 rebounds, five assists and four blocks. Max Brooks and Yuri Covington had 13 points apiece to lead UMass Lowell.
 
at NJIT 64, New Hampshire 59 – Box Score
Sabastian Robinson’s free throws with 55 seconds remaining in the game broke a 56-56 tie and held up as NJIT secured its first #AEHoops win of the season. Tariq Francis paced the Highlanders with 19 points and eight assists while Robinson had 17 points. Khalil Badru’s 16 points paced the Wildcats, who suffered their first loss in three games.
 
UAlbany 70, at Binghamton 65  – Box Score
UAlbany used a late 12-0 run to turn a four-point deficit into an eight point advantage and held on for its second-league win. Byron Joshua led UAlbany with 15 points and Kheni Briggs (13) and Amir Lindsey (12) combined for 25 points off the bench. Tymu Chenery led Binghamton with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
