Women’s #AEHoops Week 10: Four Teams Earn Sweeps

BOSTON – UAlbany, Binghamton, NJIT and Vermont all won twice this week to take over the top four spots in the #AEHoops standings. The Great Danes sit atop the standings at 4-0, while the Highlanders are close behind at 3-0.
  
The Week That Was
  • UAlbany started the week with a 59-32 victory over New Hampshire and followed it up with a fourth quarter comeback against Maine to beat the Black Bears 60-55 at home.
  • NJIT is a perfect 3-0 after putting up 48 second-half points in a big win over UMBC on Thursday and then shooting past UMass Lowell 72-54.
  • Vermont had the most impressive weekend of any team. The Catamounts led UML 45-23 at the half on the way to a 25-point win and followed it up with a 44-21 lead over Bryant at the half. They finished with a 31-point victory to go to 3-1 in league play.
  • Binghamton took down Maine for the first time since the 2019-20 season with a 69-59 win on Thursday and then beat UNH 67-44.
 
Looking Ahead
  • Thursday Binghamton (3-1) welcomes Vermont (3-1) for an 11 a.m. matchup between two teams that have won three straight.
  • Also on Thursday, Maine (2-2) hosts NJIT (3-0) while Bryant welcomes UAlbany and UMBC faces New Hampshire.
  • On Saturday, UAlbany welcomes Binghamton and NJIT is at New Hampshire. Bryant plays at UMass Lowell and Maine welcomes UMBC.

The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+ or ESPN3, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.
 
2024-25 Weekly Award Winners (Jan. 13)
Player of the Week
Jadyn Weltz, Binghamton – Jr., Guard, Timmons, Ontario
  • Averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game in a 2-0 week.
  • Posted 21 points, six assists, five steals and four rebounds as Binghamton beat Maine 69-59. Their first win over the Black Bears since 2019-20.
  • Chipped in 12 points, four boards and two steals in a blowout win over UNH, 67-44.
  • This is Weltz’s first career #AEHoops Player of the Week honor and the first for Binghamton since the 2020.
 
Rookie of the Week
Olivia Kulyk, NJIT – Fr., Guard, Edinboro, Pa.
  • Averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.0 block per game while shooting 50% from the floor in two wins.
  • Had 13 points, five rebounds and three triples in a 28-point win over UMBC.
  • Came through with 13 points, five boards and two blocks in an 18-point win over UMass Lowell.
  • This is Kulyk’s fifth #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor this season.
