Men's #AEHoops Jan. 9 Recap

BOSTON – Road teams enjoyed success last night going 3-1 as UAlbany, UMBC and Vermont earned wins away from home while Maine was the lone team to win at home. Vermont improved to 2-0 with a win over UMass Lowell in the game of the night, a rematch of the last two America East title games.

Vermont 67, UMass Lowell 63 – Box Score
The Catamounts outrebounded the River Hawks by 14 and scored 18 second-chance points to improve to 2-0 in #AEHoops play and hand UML its first home loss of the year. TJ Hurley's three-pointer in the final minute iced the outcome. Hurley led all scorers with 23 points while Ileri Ayo-Faleye had a double-double of 17 points and 11 boards. Six-time America East Rookie of the Week Martin Somerville had 17 points, but was the only River Hawk in twin figures.
 
Maine 81, Binghamton 71  – Box Score
Maine earned its first league win by shooting a blistering 56 percent from the field, including 53 percent from three-point land en route to scoring 82 points, its second-most vs. a Division I oppontent this season. Kellen Tynes led the Black Bears with 25 points, six assists and six steals while A.J. Lopez had 21 points. Tymu Chenery paced four Bearcats in double figures with 20 points. 
 
UAlbany 61, New Hampshire 57 – Box Score
UAlbany outscored UNH by nine in the second half to earn its first conference win of the season. With the game tied at 50 and under four minutes to go, the Great Danes used a mini 6-0 spurt to take the lead. DeMarr Langford, Jr. scored two baskets in that stretch and finished a game-best 23 points. He also added 11 rebounds. Sami Pissis led the Wildcats with 17 points.
 
UMBC 87, NJIT 64 – Box Score
Trailing 37-30 at halftime, UMBC put up 57 second-half points and outscored the Highlanders by 30 points to earn its first league win. UMBC shot 64 percent in the second half. Bryce Johnson matched his career high with 28 points in the victory. Sebastian Robinson contributed 22 for NJIT.
 
Saturday’s slate is highlighted by Vermont visiting Bryant in the final game of the day. Both teams try to remain unbeaten in league play.
