#AEWSOC Week 7: Bryant, Maine, UMBC, UNH Earn League Wins

BOSTON – Week two of #AEWSOC league play saw four programs remain unbeaten with three of them improving to 2-0. Bryant, Maine and UNH all posted road wins on Sunday to stay perfect while UMBC beat UMass Lowell to improve to 1-0-1.

Need to Know
  • Road teams went a perfect 4-0-0 in league play on Sunday.
  • Maine rallied from two goals down by scoring three times in the final 28:11 vs. Vermont to register a 3-2 win. Jordane Pinnette’s score with just 2:59 left was the difference maker.
  • The Black Bears have won four in a row and are a league-best 6-1-2 on the season.
  • UNH beat Binghamton, 1-0, earning their league-best sixth shutout of the year and improving to 7-2-1 in the process. The Wildcats held the Bearcats to just three total shots and only one on net.
  • Bryant downed UAlbany, 2-0, behind two goals from Emily Supple, who earned America East Offensive Player of the Week honors as a result. Shannon Mejia had five saves in net for the Bulldogs.
  • Izzy Binko’s goal in the 51st minute lifted UMBC to a 2-1 win at UMass Lowell. Abby Cowles had eight saves in net for the Retrievers.
  • For the first time this season, eight conference games will be played this week with four Thursday and four Sunday. That includes UMass Lowell visiting Maine in a rematch of last year’s America East championship game.
  • The #AEWSOC preseason poll and All-Conference teams were announced on August 5 - link.

Offensive Player of the Week
Emily Supple, Bryant – Jr., Midfielder, Cape Elizabeth, Maine
  • Scored both of Bryant’s goals in a 2-0 win over UAlbany on Sunday.
  • The scores were the first of Supple’s career.
  • This is Supple’s first career #AEWSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Abbey Cowles, UMBC – Sr., Goalkeeper, Colts Neck, N.J.
  • Made a season-high eight saves in UMBC’s 2-1 road win at UMass Lowell on Sunday.
  • This is Cowles first #AEWSOC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season and second of her career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Whitney Vaillant, Bryant – Fr., Defender, Concord, N.H.
  • Contributed to a defense that shut out UAlbany.
  • Played 50 minutes on the back line.
  • This is Vaillant’s second #AEWSOC Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
