#AEWSOC Week 3: NJIT Runs Unbeaten Streak to Four

BOSTON – Three teams #AEWSOC teams posted perfect weeks as NJIT, UNH and UMBC combined to go 4-0-0 last week.  Five teams sit at .500 or better three weeks into the new season.

Need to Know
  • NJIT won twice last week, beating St. Peter’s, 2-0, on Thursday and Rider, 3-0, on Sunday.
  • The Highlanders have posted four-straight shutouts and are 3-0-1 in its last four contests which includes three-straight victories.
  • Ciara Adams totaled a league-best six points last week including a five-point game vs. the Peacocks.  
  • UNH won its lone match of the week, a 3-0 victory over LIU on Sunday. Meghan Guarente posted a goal and an assist.
  • After its match vs. Drexel was canceled due to lightning on Thursday, UMBC posted a 2-0 win over Howard on Sunday.
  • Vermont’s Bailey Ayer is tied for 40th nationally averaging .8 goals per game. She leads the conference in both goals (4) and points (8),
  • Maine's Abby Kraemer was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List on August 15.
  • Thirteen more games take place this week, six of which are at home.

Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 3

Offensive Player of the Week
Ciara Adams, NJIT – Sr., Midfielder, Flemington, N.J.
  • Racked up a league-best six points in two games last week.
  • Scored twice and added an assist in NJIT’s 3-0 win over Rider on Sunday.
  • Set up Caroline Caputo’s goal in the Highlanders’ win over St. Peter’s on Thursday.
  • This is Adams’ first #AEWSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season and second of her career.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Sally Rainey, New Hampshire – Jr., Goalkeeper, West Lebanon, N.H.
  • Stopped all three shots she faced in UNH’s 3-0 win over LIU on Sunday.
  • The shutout is Rainey’s second of the year and 10th of his career.
  • This is Rainey’s first #AEWSOC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season and third of her career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Kristiana Kolega, UMBC – Fr., Midfielder, Rosalyn, N.Y.
  • Tallied her first career point in UMBC’s win over Howard on Sunday.
  • Assisted on Abby Joseph’s goal in the 41st minute.  
  • This is Kolega’s first career #AEWSOC Rookie of the Week honor.
