#AEMSOC Week 4: Six Programs Earn Victories

BOSTON – Six different programs came away with wins last week, highlighted by Vermont and Binghamton which both went 2-0. The Bearcats rank second in the league with four victories and currently six different #AEMSOC teams have a winning percentage of at least 60.0 percent.
 
Need to Know:
  • The Bearcats won a pair of road contests, taking down Lafayette 1-0 and then beating Iona 2-1 on a goal by Luke Yates with just 45 seconds remaining in regulation.
  • Vermont’s offense came alive last week, beating Lehigh 3-2 and then blowing out Fairfield 5-0 on Saturday.
  • New Hampshire  went out west and battled UC Santa Barbara, who is receiving votes nationally, to a 0-0 draw for a 2-1-2 record.
  • The River Hawks rebounded from a tough loss at UMass to edge Merrimack 2-1, while Bryant suffered its first loss of the season, 2-1, at home against Providence.
  • UAlbany had its best week of the season, shutting out Marist 2-0 and then playing Cornell to a 2-2 draw.
  • There are 11 #AEMSOC contests this week, highlighted by New Hampshire traveling to face #16 Hofstra on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
  • Elsewhere, Vermont welcomes Harvard while UMBC and Bryant are both on the road for a pair of contests.

Offensive Player of the Week
Ander Castillo, UAlbany – Senior, Forward, Bilbao, Spain
  • Recorded three goals over two games in leading UAlbany to a 1-0-1 mark last week.
  • Tallied both Great Dane goals in a 2-2 draw with Cornell, which is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll.
  • This is Castillo’s first career #AEMSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Erik Lauta, New Hampshire – Sr., Goalkeeper, Aptos, Calif.
  • Made four saves in a 4-0 shutout of UC Santa Barbara who was receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll.
  • This is Lauta’s first #AEMSOC Defensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Matteo Samori, UMBC – Fr., Forward, Vancouver, British Columbia
  • Scored one goal on one shot in a 4-0 victory over Saint Joseph’s.
  • This is Matteo’s first #AEMSOC Rookie of the Week honor.

The America East is one of the best men’s soccer conferences in the country. In 2023 the league finished sixth in RPI among all conferences and three teams were selected to the NCAA Tournament. Overall The conference has received multiple bids to the NCAA tournament in four of the past eight seasons, with Vermont and New Hampshire reaching each of the past three years. Four different teams have reached the third round of the NCAA tournament since 2014, highlighted by UMBC getting all the way to the College Cup in 2014.

Fans will once again be able to watch nearly every #AEMSOC contest this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV.
