Women's Volleyball 9/10/2024 11:30:00 AM #AEVB Week 2: Binghamton & Bryant Go 3-1 BOSTON – Binghamton and Bryant each went 3-1 last week, while UAlbany and New Hampshire secured a pair of wins to highlight a strong week of #AEVB action. Need to Know Binghamton won the Fairfield Invitational crown after taking down Boston College to cap off a 3-1 week for the Bearcats. The win marked their first over an ACC opponent since 2012. Tsvetelina Ilieva was named the MVP of the Invitational. Bryant also went 3-1 last weekend on the way to capturing the Ocean State Cup. The Bulldogs fell 3-0 to Brown but took down Rhode Island, Providence and Stonehill. UAlbany christened its newly renovated gym with a 2-1 record, beating Iona 3-1 and FDU 3-2 after falling 3-1 to Central Michigan in its opening match. UNH swept Merrimack and Stonehill by matching 3-0 scores before falling 3-2 to Harvard in Cambridge. NJIT earned a 3-2 win over Sacred Heart to end its weekend. There are 19 #AEVB Matches this weekend, highlighted by UNH traveling to Texas A&M and then facing Temple. UMBC travels to Maryland to cap off the weekend. Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 10 Player of the Week Aubrey LaPour, Bryant – Senior, Outside Hitter, Blue Springs, Mo. Named MVP of the Ocean State Cup after averaging 3.86 kills and 0.86 blocks per set while hitting .342 in a 3-1 week. Hit .485 with 19 kills, three digs and three blocks in a 3-1 victory over Rhode Island. This is LaPour’s first career #AEVB Player of the Week award. Setter & Rookie of the Week Maria Olga Siapani, UAlbany – Fr., Setter, Limassol, Cyprus Led UAlbany to a 2-1 record while averaging 8.67 assists and 1.75 digs per set. Had 32 assists in a 3-0 sweep of Iona and then came through with 38 assists and 12 digs in a 3-2 victory over FDU to conclude the weekend. This is Siapani’s second straight week sweeping #AEVB Setter & Rookie of the Week honors. Defensive Specialist of the Week Misa Dlouha, Binghamton – So., Middle Blocker, Pardubice, Czech Republic Registered 31 total blocks, averaging 1.82 blocks per set and chipping in 1.88 kills per set as Binghamton won the Fairfield Invitational. Posted ten total blocks and eight kills in a 3-2 victory over Boston College, as well as two aces in the final set to turn a 13-12 deficit into a 15-13 victory.
