#AEWSOC Week 2: New Season Swings Into Full Gear

BOSTON – The new season is in full gear with all but one #AEWSOC team playing multiple games last week. All nine programs have at least one win just 10 days into the campaign.

Need to Know
  • UNH tied Louisville 1-1 draw on Thursday making it the second #AEWSOC program in as many weeks to earn a result against an ACC team. Maine tied Syracuse on August 18.
  • Maine, the reigning league champs and preseason #AEWSOC favorites, improved to 2-0-1 with a 1-0 win at Rhode Island. 
  • NJIT went unbeaten last week with a tie vs. Marist and a 1-0 win over Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday.
  • Bryant picked up two wins last week, beating Stonehill 5-0 on Thursday and Marist, 1-0 on Sunday.
  • Maine's Abby Kraemer was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List on August 15.
  • Sixteen more games take place this week, 11 of which are at home.
  • UMass Lowell welcomes SEC-foe LSU to Cushing Field on Thursday while Maine will be challenged on Sunday at Rutgers, an NCAA tournament team a year ago.
  • The #AEWSOC preseason poll and All-Conference teams were announced on August 5 - link.
 
Weekly Award Winners – Aug. 26

Offensive Player of the Week
Jordane Pinette, Maine – Jr., Forward, Thetford Mines, Quebec
  • Scored the lone goal in Maine’s 1-0 win over Rhode Island on Sunday.
  • Found the back of the net in the 16th minute to help the Black Bears improve to 2-0-1 on the season.
  • This is Pinette’s first career #AEWSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Taylor Burgess, UMass Lowell – Gr., Goalkeeper, Mendon, Mass.
  • Made six saves to lead UMass Lowell to a 1-0 win at Boston University on Thursday.
  • The shutout is the 12th of Burgess’ career.
  • This is Burgess’ first #AEWSOC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season and fourth of her career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Whitney Vaillant, Bryant – Fr., Defender, Concord, N.H.
  • Tallied the only score in Bryant’s 1-0 victory at Marist on Sunday.
  • Knocked in a feed off a corner kick in the 67th minute.
  • This is Vaillant’s first career #AEWSOC Rookie of the Week honor.

Fans will once again be able to watch nearly every #AEWSOC contest this season with the majority of games airing on ESPN+ and the ESPN app while others will air on AmericaEast.TV.
