#AEWSOC Week 1: Strong Start to 2024 Campaign

BOSTON – A new academic year is here and #AEWSOC teams started off with a bang as five of the eight teams in action earned results. America East teams combined to post a .555 win percentage after going 5-3-2 last week.

Need to Know
  • UAlbany, Binghamton, Maine and New Hampshire posted wins in their season openers with the Wildcats going a perfect 2-0-0 last week.
  • Maine, the reigning league champs and preseason #AEWSOC favorites, opened up with a 4-0 win at LeMoyne followed by a 1-1 tie at ACC-foe Syracuse. 
  • UAlbany earned a 3-1 win over LIU in its opener while Binghamton beat George Washington on the road to earn its first victory.
  • Vermont earned a 2-2 tie vs. UConn, which was picked second in the Big East preseason poll, on Friday.
  • Maine's Abby Kraemer, who tallied a league-best five points last week, was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List on Thursday.
  • Eighteen more games take place this week, including seven on America East campuses.

Weekly Award Winners – Aug. 19
Offensive Player of the Week
Delaney Lappin, New Hampshire – Gr., Forward, Corbin City, N.J.
  • Scored two goals just 56 seconds apart in final six minutes to give UNH a 3-2 win at Holy Cross on Sunday.
  • The win cemented a perfect 2-0-0 week for the Wildcats.
  • This is Delaney’s first career #AEWSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Anna Phillips, Maine – Sr., Defender, Bolton, England
  • Led a back line that surrendered just 12 total shots, including only 2 on net, in an unbeaten week.
  • The Black Bears blanked LeMoyne on Thursday before earning a tie vs. ACC-foe Syracuse on Sunday.
  • This is Phillips’ first career #AEWSOC Defensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Anna Buckwalter, Binghamton – Fr., Midfielder, Birdsboro, Pa.
  • Scored twice her collegiate debut, a 3-2 win at George Washington,
  • Found the back of the net in the 9th and 48th minutes, the latter of which was the game winner.
  • This is Buckwalter’s first career #AEWSOC Rookie of the Week honor.

Fans will once again be able to watch nearly every #AEWSOC contest this season with the majority of games airing on ESPN+ and the ESPN app while others will air on AmericaEast.TV.
