Eugene, Ore. – A pair of former America East standouts officially punched their tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics with impressive performances on the track, as Emily Mackay and Elle Purrier St. Pierre went 2-3 in the 1500 meters on Sunday evening to conclude the 2024 Track and Field Olympic Trials.
St. Pierre qualified for the Olympics in the 5000 meters this past Monday with a victory in the event and an Olympic Trials record of 14:40.34. The 2021 Olympian then took third on Sunday evening in the 1500 meters with a personal-best time of 3:55.99 to qualify in a second event. Her time was the fourth-fastest 1500 meters by an American woman.
Mackay secured her first Olympic berth by placing second in the 1500 meters with a personal best time of 3:55.90. The New York native dropped nearly four seconds from her previous personal best time of 3:59.76 to earn the Olympic Trials silver. Her time was also the third-fastest 1500 meter time ever ran by an American woman.
Purrier is a 2018 UNH graduate and NCAA Champion, while Mackay graduated from Binghamton in 2022 as a five-time All-American. Both run for Team New Balance, based out of Boston.
In addition to Mackay and St. Pierre, Eric Holt a 2018 Binghamton graduate competed in the 800 meters and the 1500 meter events. Holt made it to the semifinals of both events but failed to advance to the finals.
UMass Lowell’s James Kotowski, a rising senior, also competed at the Olympic Trials over the last ten days, taking fifth in the javelin with a personal best throw of 75.69 meters.
The 2024 Olympics begin on July 26 in Paris, France with coverage across the NBC Networks.
