ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Maine baseball graduate student Connor Goodman has been named the America East Man of the Year, as announced by the conference at its annual awards banquet on Wednesday evening.
Goodman is the second Maine student-athlete to win the award, joining Kelton Cullenburg who won in 2014. He is the first baseball student-athlete to ever win Man of the Year. This award recognizes the conference's senior male student-athlete who has best distinguished himself throughout his collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership.
The 2023 First-Team All-Conference selection was a mainstay for the Black Bears, helping lead the team to a pair of regular season championships and the 2023 Tournament championship. The 2023 squad started a league-record 15-0 in #AEBASE action and finished the season with a 32-21 overall mark. Goodman hit .285 with 181 career hits in his five years with the Black Bears, collecting 101 RBI along with 29 extra base hits in177 games.
Goodman graduated Summa Cum Laude (3.89 GPA) with a degree in management and a leadership minor. He is scheduled to graduate with an MBA this summer.
Goodman made an immense impact off the field while with the Black Bears. This past fall, Goodman began a baseball glove drive named, 'Goody's Gloves' that brought in donations of new baseball gloves or financial commitments to help purchase gloves. A total of 84 gloves were collected and donated to the Orono and Old Town Little League organizations. In the spring, Goodman was acknowledged for his off the field achievements by the Lou Gehrig Community Impact Association as he was named an honorable mention for his impact in the community. Goodman was one of 15 baseball players in the country to be named either a semifinalist or honorable mention for the inaugural award at the college level.
The nine nominees for the 2024 America East Man of the Year award were announced on May 20. Three finalists, which included Godman, Yannick Bright and Henry Shemet were announced on Tuesday, May 28.
