Eugene, OR - A quartet of #ATEF athletes will compete in the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials over the next 10 days, which is hosted by the University of Oregon. Three America East alums and one current #AETF athlete will travel to Hayward Field in Eugene with hopes of earning a spot on the U.S Olympic Team for the 2024 Olympics in Paris next month.
New Hampshire’s Ellie St. Pierre will also compete in the women’s 1,500 on Thursday, June 27. Pierre represented the U.S. at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, finishing 10th in the women’s 1,500m. Pierre returns to the U.S Olympic Trials with the fastest qualifying time for the event clocking in at 3:56.00. Pierre will also compete in the women’s 5,000m. She also has the fastest qualifying time in the event with 14:34.12. The first round of the women’s 5,000m is set to begin on Friday, June 21st at 9:22 p.m.
Binghamton alum Emily Mackay makes her debut at the U.S Olympic Trials just two years after turning professional. Mackay will compete in the women’s 1,500. She currently has the 6th fastest qualifying time with 3:59.76. The first round of the women’s 1,500m is scheduled to begin Thursday, June 27 at 8:23 p.m.
Fellow Bearcat, Eric Holt returns to the U.S. Olympic Trials for his second appearance, competing back in 2021 and advancing to the second round in the 1,500m. Holt will compete in the men’s 800m and 1,500m. The first round of the men’s 800m is slated to begin Thursday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. on Peacock and the men’s 1,500m first round will start at 8.22 p.m. on Friday, June 21. Semifinals take place on Saturday.
UMass Lowell’s James Kotowski is also making his debut in the U.S. Olympic Trials in the men’s javelin throw. Kotowski had a standout junior season, qualifying in late April at UMass Lowell’s own George Davis Invite. The men’s javelin throw will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 21 and can be viewed on Peackcock.
The top three finishers in the finals of each event in the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials will advance to the Summer Olympic Games provided they have also met the qualifying standard during the current track & field season.
