River Hawks Walk Off to Highlight #AEBASE Championship Day 1 Action

VESTAL, N.Y. – No. 4 UMass Lowell walked it off in the opening game of the 2024 #AEBASE Championship and Wednesday’s nightcap was postponed due to inclement at the Binghamton Baseball Complex.
 
The River Hawks tied it up 4-4 in the eighth on a Carlos Martinez home run and then Trey Brown doubled home Brandon Fish in the bottom of the ninth to walk it off and advance to Thursday.
 
Day two of the #AEBASE Championship begins at 11 a.m. as No. 3 NJIT will square off against No. 6 Binghamton in a contest that was originally scheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The loser will be eliminated while the winner moves on to the double elimination portion of the tournament later in the day.
 
At 3 p.m. top seed Bryant faces the lowest remaining seed after the first contest, either No. 4 UMass Lowell or No. 6 Binghamton. No. 3 UMBC follows at 7 pm. and will play either No. 3 NJIT or No. 4 UML. Three more games will take place Friday, with the championship game(s) set for Saturday.

UMass Lowell 5, UAlbany 4
  • The River Hawks grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Martinez singled home Brown.
  • UML added a pair of runs one inning later for a 3-0 advantage as Brown singled in a pair of runs on a full count with two outs.
  • Michel Simes was cruising for the River Hawks until the fourth, when Jared Toby sent a moon shot over the left field fence to close the gap to 3-2.
  • The Great Danes added a run in the six on a pair of errors and grabbed a 4-3 lead in top of the 8th.
  • Martinez ripped a game-tying solo home run to right in the bottom of the 8th.
  • Brown doubled home Fish in the bottom of the ninth with two outs on a ball to the wall in center, sending off the celebration.
