Vermont Falls to Saint Louis 57-54 in WNIT Fab 4

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont’s impressive postseason run came to end in the WNIT Fab 4, as Saint Louis used a dominant third quarter to take the lead for good and secure a 57-54 victory on Wednesday.
 
The Catamounts took a 24-17 lead at the half, but were outscored 24-13 in the third quarter by Saint Louis. Vermont closed the scored to two points in the fourth but was never able to draw even again.
 
UVM shot 42.9 percent for the game and was 4-for-12 from three while the Billikins shot 43.4 percent. Bella Vito paced the Catamounts with 11 points, 11 rebounds and three assists while Emma Utterback finished her career with ten points and four assists.
 
Saint Louis was led by Peyton Kennedy’s 23 points, while Brooklyn Gray added 13 points and two steals.
 
How it Happened:
  • Saint Louis led 6-2 and then pushed it to 11-6 with 3:40 left in the first. Andjela Matic ended the run and UVM scored five straight before one more Billikins basket made it 13-11.
  • The Catamounts scored the first 11 points of the second quarter to grab a 22-13 advantage. Saint Louis outscored UVM 4-2 the rest of the period as the hosts finished with a 24-17 lead at the half.
  • It was all Billikins in the third quarter as they outscored the Catamounts 24-13. They drew even with UVM at 35 apiece and pushed the lead to 41-37 at the end of the period on a pair of Kennedy baskets.
  •  UVM cut the deficit to just two, 48-46, on a two by Matic with 4:32 left, however, six straight from St. Louis stretched the led to eight. The Catamounts couldn’t get any closer than three the rest of the way.
