#AEMLAX Week 9: UAlbany Moves to 3-0 With Thrilling Win

BOSTON – The 2024 #AEMLAX season is three weeks in and UAlbany sits in first place all alone after a thrilling 14-13 win vs. UMBC on Saturday. Jackson Palumb scored twice in the final two minutes, including on a drive to win the game with five seconds left.
 
Additionally, over the weekend, Binghamton, Bryant and Vermont picked up wins.
Binghamton beat UMass Lowell, 15-6, while Vermont defeated Merrimack, 20-8, and Bryant downed NJIT, 12-8. The Bearcats, Bulldogs, Catamounts and Retrievers are all 2-1, just one game back of first place in the league standings.
 
UAlbany and Bryant battle on Saturday in a rematch of last year’s America East Championship game to highlight next week’s action. Also, Binghamton visits Vermont, UMass Lowell hosts UMBC and NJIT welcomes Merrimack.
 
 
The preseason poll was announced on January 16.

#AEMLAX Weekly Award Winners – April 1
Offensive Player of the Week
Brock Haley, Vermont – Gr., Attack, Port Hope, Ont.
  • Recorded a career high nine points on three goals and six assists with two ground balls in Vermont's 20-8 win over Merrimack. 
  • The nine points matches the most by an America East player in a single game this season.
  • This is Haley’s first #AEMLAX Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Ryker Demarest, Vermont – So., LSM, Tampa, Fla.
  • Recorded career highs in ground balls (5) and caused turnovers (2) in Vermont's 20-8 win over Merrimack. 
  • This is Demarest’s first #AEMLAX Defensive Player of the Week of the season.
 
Faceoff Specialist of the Week
Henry Dodge, Vermont – So., Faceoff Specialist, Westport, Conn.
  • Won 22 of 26 faceoffs and picked up a career-best13 ground balls in a 20-8 win over Merrimack.
  • This is Dodge’s third #AEMLAX Faceoff Specialist of the Week honor of the season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Jackson Palumb, UAlbany – Fr., Attack, Syracuse, N.Y.
  • Scored two crucial goals to lead UAlbany to a comeback win over UMBC, a victory that moved the Great Danes into first place in the league standings.
  • With his team trailing 13-12 late in the game, Palumb tied the contest with 1:47 left then won it on a drive with five seconds left.
  • Also added an assist for three points.
  • This is Palumb’s first #AEMLAX Rookie of the Week honor.
