Purrier St. Pierre and Mackay Shine at World Indoor Track & Field Championships

BOSTON – A pair of former America East All-Americans, Elle Purrier St., Pierre and Emily Mackay both medaled at the Word Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend, with Purrier St. Pierre capturing the world title in the 3000 meters.
 
A 2018 graduate of New Hampshire, Purrier St. Pierre became the first American woman to win the 3000 meters at the world championships. The 2020 Olympian and 2022 WIC silver medalist had an impressive kick on the final lap to finish with a time of 8:20.87.
 
MacKay, a 2022 graduate of Binghamton, made a mark in her first career World Championships, taking bronze in the 1500 meters, as part of a 2-3 finish by American runners. After taking third in her heat to reach the final, she went out strong over the final two laps and took third overall with her time of 4:02.32. The race was the fifth fastest time ever by an American in the 1500 meters.
 
Purrier St. Pierre and Mackay both run for team New Balance and train out of Boston.
 
In addition to Purrier St. Pierre and Mackay, UAlbany’s Grace Claxton ran in the 400 meters, finishing in 54.62, though she didn’t make it out of qualifying. Claxton is a 2016 Olympian from Puerto Rico.
