BOSTON – UAlbany and UMBC took over first place with a pair of impressive victories on Saturday, while Binghamton and Bryant both secure their first #AEMLAX victories of the year.
The Great Danes opened the week with a hard-fought 16-10 loss to #4 Virginia, but rebounded on Saturday with a 13-11 victory over defending regular season champion Vermont. The Retrievers continued their strong recent play with a 15-9 win at Merrimack. Bryant, meanwhile, dispatched UMass Lowell 17-2 and Binghamton edged NJIT 17-12.
This week it’s a battle for first place as the Retrievers host UAlbany on Saturday at 12 p.m. and one team will leave with its first conference loss. Binghamton looks to extend its win streak against UML while Bryant welcome NJIT and Merrimack travels to Vermont.
The preseason poll was announced on January 16.

Offensive Player of the Week
Matthew Keegan, Binghamton – Jr., Attack, Lake Grove, N.Y.
- Tallied a career-high nine points on five goals and four assists in Binghamton’s win over NJIT.
- Scored five times on eight shots as the Bearcats improved to 1-1 in league play.
- This is Keegan’s first #AEMLAX Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jake Piseno, UAlbany – Gr., LSM, Liverpool, N.Y.
- Helped team to 1-1 record, including win over UVM with three points, 11 ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Against No. 4 Virginia, limited top scorer to one goal on two shots while caused three turnovers with four ground balls.
- This is Piseno’s first #AEMLAX Defensive Player of the Week of the season.
Faceoff Specialist of the Week
Zach Dudley, UMBC – Sr., Midfielder, Annapolis, Md.
- Won 19 of 24 faceoffs and picked up a career-high 13 ground balls in a 15-9 win at Merrimack.
- This is Dudley’s second career #AEMLAX Faceoff Specialist of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Ryan Doherty, UAlbany – Fr., Attack, Concord, N.H.
- Had three goals, three assists and six ground balls in a 1-1 week.
- Finished with three goals and one assist in a 13-11 victory over Vermont
- This is Doherty’s first #AEMLAX Rookie of the Week honor.
