Boston, MA - After just one short week following the NCAA Championships, the outdoor track and field season kicked off this past weekend with 5 #AETF teams competing. UAlbany found success at the Black & Gold Classic with some athletes having their best start to the season to date. Bryant attended the Buccaneer Invitational, while UMBC, NJIT, and Vermont all attended the Towson Opener, and NJIT also went to the USF Bulls Invitational.
Here are the week 1 #AETF Award Winners:
Male Track Performer of the Week
Shak Williams, UAlbany - Jr., Sprints, St. Andrew, Jamaica
- Took 2nd in the 100m with a time of 10.34. Williams is tied nationally at 18th with his 100m time.
- Placed 18th in the 200m with UAlbany’s third-fastest outdoor time of 21.49.
- Competed on UAlbany’s 4x100 relay team, running the second leg. The team came in first with an overall time of 39.72. The Great Danes are ranked 9th in the relay and the first America East team to break 40 seconds.
Male Field Performer of the Week
Travis Robinson, UAlbany - Sr., Throws, Kingston, Jamaica
- Earned the silver medal in the shot put throwing a distance of 61’ 4.5”. Robinson’s toss breaks UAlbany’s outdoor program record as well as breaks his overall program record. He is currently ranked 6th nationally in the shot put.
- Robinson also came in 3rd in the discus throwing 180’1”, which ranks him at 25th in the NCAA.
Female Track Performer of the Week
Dominique Clarke, UAlbany - Jr., Sprints, Kingston, Jamaica
- Finished 3rd in the 100m, coming in at 11.59, Clarke is now tied for 14th nationally with her time.
- Placed 18th in the 200m with a time of 23.90
- Clarke helped lead the Great Danes to a 5th place finish in the 4x100. She ran the second leg, helping her team come in at 45.47 which is ranked 34th in the nation.
Female Field Performer of the Week
Ludith Campos, UAlbany - Gr., Throws, Mount Vernon, NY
- Campos won gold in the hammer throw, tossing a distance of 192’4”.
- Her throw ranks her 20th nationally.
