BOSTON – Fresh off the team’s America East Championship since, 2019, Maine secured at No. 15 seed in the 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament and will battle No. 2 Ohio State in Columbus, while UAlbany and Vermont both earned invitations to the WNIT.
The Black Bears will play Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio on March 22 or 23, with a specific time and date released at a later time. The Great Danes and Catamounts will both be playing postseason basketball in the WNIT. First round action will be played March 20-22 with a complete bracket, including dates and times to be announced at a later date.
NCAA Tournament Bracket
This will be Maine's 10th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its first since 2019. The Black Bears are 1-9 all-time in the NCAA Tournament with their lone win being a 60-58 victory over No. 7 Stanford on March 12, 1999.
Maine and Ohio State last met in 2017, an 83-70 victory by the Buckeyes in Columbus. The teams' first meeting came in 1995, a 93-64 win by Ohio State. Maine is 0-2 all-time against Ohio State. The Black Bears are 0-1 this season against the Big Ten, a 67-59 setback in Portland, Maine to Indiana.
The Buckeyes won the Big Ten regular season over Iowa with a 16-2 mark before losing to the No. 8 seed Maryland, 82-61, in the Big Ten quarterfinals.
UAlbany is making its third straight postseason appearance after playing in the NCAA Tournament in 2022 and the WNIT in 2023. Vermont participated in the NCAA Tournament as a No. 15 seed in 2023.
America East programs have earned five First Round victories, with the most recent a 61-59 victory for No. 12 UAlbany over No. 5 Florida.
