Jersey Mike's Women's #AEPlayoffs Semifinals on Monday Night

BOSTON – Today the Jersey Mike’s Women’s #AEPlayoffs Semifinals take place, with a trip to Friday’s championship on the line. Three of the four programs have won a league title in the past six years, with the last two champions facing off in UAlbany and Vermont. Binghamton, meanwhile, seeks its first championship game appearance, while Maine has appeared in seven of the last eight.

No. 5 Binghamton at No. 1 Maine – 6 PM
  • The Black Bears have lost just once in the past month, winning ten of their past 11 contests, including a hard-fought 49-43 victory over #8 UMass Lowell in the quarterfinals.
  • Maine boasts the top scoring duo in the league. Player of the Year Anne Simon is 1st in the league in scoring (18.7) and 3rd in rebounding (7.3), while Adrianna Smith is 1st in rebounding (11.1), 1st in assists (4.7) and 2nd in scoring (16.3).
  • Binghamton has won four of its last five games and owns the second best scoring differential in the league over the last month at +11.1 ppg. The Bearcat offense is 2nd in scoring (61.8) over that span while also ranking third in defense (50.7). They took down Bryant 56-51 in the quarterfinals.
  • This season the Bearcats are the only team in the league with four players averaging double figures. The quartet of Denai Bowman, Genevieve Coleman, Jadyn Weltz and Ella Wanzer have all been solid, but Bowman has taken her game to another level in the past month, averaging 14.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting a league best 49.3 percent overall.
  • Maine swept the season series against Binghamton this year. The Black Bears won 59-56 on the road and then 57-51 at home less than two weeks ago.

No. 3 Vermont at No. 2 UAlbany – 7 PM
  • The Great Danes enter Friday’s matchup at just 3-2 over their past five games, but have won 7 of 9 overall. Over that span they are 5-0 when they score 50+ points but just 2-2 when they fail to do so. UAlbany took down NJIT 57-42 to advance to the semifinals.
  • First-Team All-Conference selection Kayla Cooper is 4th in the league in scoring (15.7) and second in rebounding (7.5), while freshman Deja Evans is putting up 8.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. Meghan Huerter has been solid recently, averaging 10.0 ppg game over her last three contests with 7 triples.
  • The Catamounts are 3-2 over their last five games, but have won 6 of 8 overall. They allowed 57 points apiece in the two losses, but didn’t allow any team to score over 51 in the six victories. UVM reached the semifinals with a 54-41 win over UMBC.
  • Vermont has become a balanced team over the last month, with four different players averaging in double figures over the six game span. Emma Utterback (12.3) leads the charge, followed by Andjela Matic (10.8), Anna Olson (10.2) and Keira Hanson (10.2). Matic and Hanson have combined to average 4.0 threes per game over that span.
  • Vermont swept the series against UAlbany and has won four straight against the Great Danes going back to last season. This includes the conference championship, a 38-36 victory. This season UVM won 64-59 at UAlbany and then 67-35 at home three weeks ago.
