BOSTON – Another #AEHoops season is heading down the home stretch and once again Vermont has secured at least a share of the men’s basketball regular-season title for the eighth-straight year. That is the second-longest streak in the nation, trailing only Gonzaga whose run is in jeopardy this year.
With three conference game dates remaining, Vermont sits in first place at 13-1. UMass Lowell follows in second at 10-3 while Bryant is 9-4 and UNH is 7-6.
Need to Know
- Vermont claimed at least a share of the #AEHoops men’s basketball regular-season crown with a 65-48 win over Bryant on Saturday.
- The Catamounts, whose eight straight regular-season title is the second-longest streak in the nation, can clinch the title outright with a UMass Lowell loss on Thursday or by beating the River Hawks on Saturday.
- UMass Lowell won twice last week, beating Binghamton and UAlbany, to lock up a top three seed for the #AEPlayoffs.
- The River Hawks can secure no worse than the No. 2 seed with a win over Bryant on Thursday.
- Bryant has locked up a top three seed after finishing No. 6 last year.
- UNH can clinch the No. 4 seed with a win at UAlbany on Thursday.
- Tariq Francis’ eight #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honors is tied with Jameel Warney for third-most in league history.
Fans will once again be able to watch every #AEHoops game this season regardless of where they live! The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+ or ESPN3, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.
The men’s #AEHoops preseason poll was announced on Oct. 18.

Player of the Week
Max Brooks, UMass Lowell – Sr., Forward, Waldorf, Md.
- Averaged 24.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in a 2-0 week for the River Hawks.
- Shot 79 percent from the floor (15-of-19) and 95 percent from the free throw line (19-fo-20).
- Had 20 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in a win over Binghamton on Thursday.
- Followed up with 29 points on near perfect shooting (10-of-11) and six boards in a win over UAlbany on Saturday.
- This is Brooks’ first #AEHoops Player of the Week honor of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Tariq Francis, NJIT – Fr., Guard, Pittsburgh, Pa.
- Averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in two games last week.
- Scored 23 points, his seventh contest with at least 20 points, and added six assists vs. UNH on Thursday.
- This is Francis’ eighth #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor this year.
