BOSTON – There are just two weeks left in the regular season and most teams have four games remaining as they look to end the season on the strong note and possibly make a run for the league title.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21
UAlbany at Vermont – 6 PM
UMass Lowell at Binghamton
New Hampshire at NJIT – 7 PM
Maine at UMBC – 7 PM
The Great Danes and Black Bears are tied atop the standings with four games apiece remaining, including a season finale between the two. On Thursday, UAlbany heads to north to battle Vermont, where they have lost three straight to the Catamounts, including the 2023 #AEHoops Championship. The Great Danes haven’t won in Patrick Gym since 2017 and need a win if they want to make a run for their second straight regular season title. Kayla Cooper anchors the team with 17.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per contest, while Andjela Matic has come on for UVM, averaging 15.3 points per game over the last three games, shooting 14-for-23 from three over that span.
Maine looks to keep pace with UAlbany as they travel down to UMBC for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Retrievers. The Black Bears have won a league-best six straight games and in league play have the best offense (66.5) and defense (50.5). They also boast two of the top four scorers in the league, with Adrianna Smith (18.7 ppg) and Anne Simon (16.9 ppg) leading the way. Anna Blount has paced UMBC with 12.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in league play as they look for the home upset. Maine won the first meeting 76-47.
Binghamton looks to move to .500 in league play and take a half game lead on Bryant for the No. 4 spot and a home quarterfinal contest. They will host UMass Lowell, who has dropped 7 of 8 games for a 4-8 league mark. The Bearcats took the first meeting between the teams 70-65.
In the final game of the night, NJIT welcomes New Hampshire as it looks to keep its playoff hopes alive. A win would put the Highlanders back in the playoff hunt, though a loss would drop them two games back of the final playoff spot with three games to play. The Wildcats won the first matchup 56-50 in Durham.
