Day 2 of #AESD Brings More Broken Records

Lexington, Va. - #AESD swimmers and divers returned to the pool on the campus of Virginia Military Institute today for the second day of the 2024 America East Swimming & Diving Championship.

On the men’s side, Binghamton leads with a score of 279. Bryant follows with 266 in second place and defending champion UMBC finishes the top three with 179 points.

On the women’s side, New Hampshire leads the pack with 293 points, while Vermont is second with 255 and rounding out the top three is Bryant with 239.

Day 2 Highlights
  • Bryant won the first gold medal of the night with Makayla Pearce winning the 500 yard free with a time of 4:51.17
  • Leo Luna of Bryant just edged out competitors to take home the gold medal in a tight race in the 500 yard free with a time of 4:26.22.
  • New Hampshire’s Ella Guilfoil won her first gold medal in the 200 yard individual medley with a personal best of 2:00.06.
  • Daniel Nicusan became the 3-time 200 yard individual medley champion winning his third consecutive gold medal with a time of 1:46.36.
  • In the women’s 50 yard free, freshman Ashley Gutshell edged out a victory for UMBC with a time of 23.05.
  • Eli Lanfear, Binghamton took home gold and broke the men’s 50 yard free conference record with a dominating time of 19.60.
  • Ember Stennett of UMBC won the women’s 3-meter diving with a total score of 292.35, earning her first America East title. Stennett broke a 12-year old America East record and is the Retrievers first 3-meter champion since 2016.
  • UMBC’s women’s team took home gold with a time of 1:32.92 in the 200 yard free relay, just edging out New Hampshire.
  • In the men’s 200 yard free relay, the quartet of Oliver Gassman, Daniel Nicusan, Christian Coleman, and Bode Neale took first and set a new conference-record with a time of 1:19.49.
