BOSTON – A trio of teams can clinch home quarterfinal contests with wins this week, while the battle for the No. 4 seed is wide open.
UAlbany, Maine and Vermont each have nine victories and with one win this week they'll secure at least one home game and a top-four seed in the upcoming #AEPlayoffs. The biggest win for any of the three teams will be Saturday when the Black Bears travel to UVM. Maine won the first battle between the two teams, an impressive 60-48 decision in the second game of conference play for both teams. Maine guard Anne Simon and UVM’s Emma Utterback have more points than any other active players in the America East and rank among the top-30 all-time in conference history with over 1,630 points apiece while playing in over 120 career contests.
Seed 4-8 are very much up in the air with a few weeks remaining as just two games separates those teams. Bryant is in fourth currently and plays UMass Lowell for the first time on Saturday, and a win helping their cause for a home playoff game. Binghamton, meanwhile has dropped two straight but could move into the top four with wins over UMBC and NJIT. If the Retrievers can take down the Bearcats it would give them a season sweep and build confidence in prep for an upset bid against UAlbany on Saturday.
