#AEMLAX Week 2: Reigning Champion Bryant Opens with Win

BOSTON – Reigning #AEMLAX champion Bryant kicks off its 2024 campaign with a win over the weekend while NJIT and Merrimack both improved to 2-0.
 
The Bulldogs earned an 11-8 win over Providence, while the Highlanders moved to 2-0 for the first time in program history with a 16-15 win vs. Siena. Merrimack beat Sacred Heart, 11-10, to stay unbeaten.
 
Binghamton and UMass Lowell also kicked off their seasons while Vermont was in action as well.
 
All eight America East teams are in action this week, including UAlbany and UMBC playing their first contests of the season.
 
 
The preseason poll was announced on January 16.
 
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of the #AEMLAX this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. #AEMLAX Weekly Award Winners – Feb. 12
Offensive Player of the Week
Garrett Muscatella, NJIT – Sr., Attack, Long Valley, N.J.
  • Recorded a career-high five goals in a 16-15 win over Siena.
  • Helped NJIT improve to 2-0 for the first time in program history.
  • This is Muscatella’s second career #AEMLAX Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Henry Vogt, Merrimack – Gr., Goalkeeper, Stratham, N.H.
  • Stopped 16 of 26 shots he faced in Merrimack’s win over Sacred Heart.
  • Posted a league-best .615 save percentage and picked up four ground balls.
  • This is Vogt’s first #AEMLAX Defensive Player of the Week of the season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Jack Bird, UMass Lowell – Sr., Faceoff, Buffalo, N.Y.
  • Had a record-setting day winning 24-of-26 faceoffs for UMass Lowell.
  • Set new program records for win percentage and total faceoffs won.
  • This is Bird’s first career #AEMLAX Faceoff Specialist of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Colby Frigon, UMass Lowell – Fr., Attack/Midfield, Providence, R.I.
  • Scored his first two career goals in the River Hawk’s season opener Saturday.
  • This is Frigon’s first career #AEMLAX Rookie of the Week honor.
