Women’s #AEHoops Week 5: UMBC Earns Two Road Victories

BOSTON –  UMBC extended its win streak to three games while Vermont got back on track with an impressive win and UAlbany suffered its first loss of the season last week.
  
The Week That Was
  • The Retrievers improved to 6-4 on the season with two road victories, taking down local rival Towson 65-60 and then blowing at Saint Francis 61-45. Jaliena Sanchez led the way against Towson with 20 points, five steals and three assists.
  • UAlbany dropped from the ranks of the unbeaten, falling 70-65 at Siena. The Great Danes gave up 19 offensive rebounds though Kayla Cooper led the way with 19 points and eight rebounds.
  • Vermont improved to 5-6 with a 74-57 victory over Manhattan. Keira Hanson and Bella Vito were each in double figures for the Catamounts.
  • Bryant saw its win streak come to an end with a 63-52 loss at home against Marist, while New Hampshire fell 60-59 at home.
  • UMass Lowell secured a dominant 69-56 victory over Le Moyne for its first victory.
  • Maine held a halftime lead at Purdue, but the Boilermakers came back for the 60-51 victory.

Looking Ahead
  • There are just 11 games on the schedule this week, with a pair of big-time matchups.
  • NJIT looks to snap a losing skid on Monday at home against Monmouth while Maine travels to face St. Joseph’s.
  • UMass Lowell hosts Iona and Boston University this week as they look to build a win streak.
  • UAlbany faces the Terriers and St. Bonaventure while Bryant plays at Boston College on Sunday.
  • Also on Sunday, Vermont hosts a tough Quinnipiac team while Binghamton travels to Siena.

Player of the Week
Jaden Walker, UMBC – Gr., Forward, New Freedom, Pa.
  • Averaged 14.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in a pair of road victories.
  • Posted 15 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and two steals in a win at Saint Francis.
  • Had 14 points and eight boards with two assists as UMBC beat CAA’s Towson for the first time since 2010.
  • This is Walker’s first career #AEHoops Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Olivia Kulyk, NJIT – Fr., Guard, Edinboro, Pa.
  • Finished with ten points, five rebounds and one steal in a tight loss to Coppin State.
  • Averaging 9.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game this season.
  • This is Kulyk’s third #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor this season.
