Men's #AEHoops Week 5: Binghamton, UMass Lowell Earn Weekly Honors

BOSTON – Six America East teams picked up wins last week as the calendar hit December. More than half of the conference teams sit at over .500 as the non-conference slate winds down.
 
Need to Know
  • UAlbany knocked off previously unbeaten Columbia, 88-73, on Wednesday behind a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds from Justin Neely.
  • UMass Lowell knocked off Atlantic 10 foe and state-system rival UMass, 96-83, on Saturday. The River Hawks shot 58 percent from the floor and were led by Quinton Mincey’s 27 points.
  • Binghamton retained the “Battle for the Interstate” trophy by beating Le Moyne, 72-62, on Saturday. Chris Walker’s career-high 30 points led the way.
  • NJIT’s Tariq Francis leads the league averaging 20.3 points per game.
  • Bryant, NJIT and UMBC also earned wins last week.
  • This week there are 13 non-conference contests on this week’s slate.

Fans will once again be able to watch every #AEHoops game this season regardless of where they live! The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. 2024-25 Weekly Award Winners (Dec. 9)
Player of the Week

Chris Walker, Binghamton – Sr., Guard, West Palm Beach, Fla.
  • Scored a career-high 30 points in Binghamton’s win at Le Moyne.
  • Scott 10-of-14 from the field including 6-of-8 from three-point land.
  • This is Walker’s first #AEHoops Player of the Week honor of the season.
 
Rookie of the Week

Martin Somerville, UMass Lowell – Fr., Guard, Bowie, Md.
  • Scored 22 points and added five assists off the bench in a win over rival UMass.
  • This is Martin’s fourth #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor this year.
