Men's Basketball 12/2/2024 11:00:00 AM Men’s #AEHoops Week 4: Binghamton, Maine & UMBC Win Twice BOSTON – Maine went 2-1 at the Cathedral Classic this past week while UMBC and Binghamton also won a pair of contests last week. Seven teams have at least four wins and six are .500 or better. Need to Know The Black Bears took down Elon in the opening game of the Cathedral Classic at the Palestra, 69-56, and then fell to host Penn before concluding the week with a 71-66 victory over Navy. UMBC won both of its contests last week, blowing out Howard 95-77 and then dispatching Morgan State 92-69, as the team shot a combined 26-for-50 from three in the two contests. Binghamton recorded a pair of overtime victories this past weekend at Lafayette. The Bearcats fell to Niagara in the opener 65-62, but rebounded to edge LIU 75-70 and then host Lafayette 82-81. NJIT, Vermont, Bryant and UMass Lowell also earned wins last week. This week there are 17 non-conference contests. UMBC and Bryant get it started tonight with the Retrievers at Georgetown and the Bulldogs at Drexel. Vermont hosts Brown and then travels to Yale, while Maine looks to keep winning with a pair of contests and UAlbany looks to snap its two-game losing streak at home against Columbia on Wednesday. Posted 14 points, 13 assists, seven steals and three rebounds in a win over Elon. Finished the week with 19 points, eight assists and four steals in a victory against Navy. This is Tynes’ first #AEHoops Player of the Week honor of the season. Rookie of the Week Martin Somerville, UMass Lowell – Fr., Guard, Bowie, Md. Averaged 15.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 steal per game in three contests last week. Finished with 21 points, four rebounds and two steals in a 93-90 loss to Saint Louis. This is Martin’s third #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor this year.
