BOSTON – In the final weekend of competition for the year, five teams were in action.
Bryant earned a men’s and women’s sweep at the Gompei Invitational as the team more than doubled up its next closest competition. Maine competed in the Maine State Meet, with the men coming home with a victory and the women earning second.
New Hampshire battled its way to a 165-135 victory over Northeastern while Vermont fell 206-94 to UConn. UMBC competed against Frostburg state in a non-scoring affair.
Teams return to the pool in early January, with the conference championship set to begin on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
2024-25 #AESD Weekly Award Winners – Dec. 9
Female Swimmer of the Week
Amanda Witkus, Bryant – So., Uxbridge, MA
- Won the 100 fly (55.51), 200 fly (2:00.60) and 200 IM (2:02.90) at the Gompei Invitational.
- Her 200 IM time is the best in the conference by two seconds while her 200 fly time is also tops in the league. Her 100 fly time ranks third in the league.
- This is Witkus’ first #AESD Swimmer of the Week honor.
Female Diver of the Week
Haylie Calver, Maine – Jr., Wilbraham, Mass.
- Won 1-meter at the Maine State Meet with a meet record, 276.05, which is third in the conference.
- Took second in the 3-meter with a score of 265.50, second in the conference this year.
- This is Calver’s first #AESD Diver of the Week honor this season.
Female Rookie of the Week
Lydia Hart, New Hampshire – Fr., Cornwall, Ontario, Canada
- Won the 1000 free (10:05.80) in a league-best time.
- Claimed victory in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.31.
- This is Hart’s second #AESD Rookie of the Week honor.
Male Swimmer of the Week
Boris Milev, UMBC – Gr., Sofia, Bulgaria.
- Set a new pool record in the 800 free relay, leading off with a 1:38.31 and then anchored a 400 medley relay.
- Broke Michael Phelps’ 21-year-old pool record in the 100 free as the leadoff in the 400 free relay with his time of 44.74.
- This is Milev’s first #AESD Swimmer of the Week honor this season.
Male Diver of the Week
Kale Cave, UMBC – Fr., Columbia, Md.
- Placed second in the 1-meter diving event with a personal best 279.95.
- Took seventh in the 3-meter with a score of 214.50.
- This is Cave’s first #AESD Diver of the Week honor this year.
Male Rookie of the Week
