Top Two Seeds, Maine & UNH, Move Onto #AEWSOC Title Game

Maine and New Hampshire, the two best America East women’s soccer teams all season long, will meet to decide 2024 America East Women’s Soccer Championship. The two teams each posted semifinal victories on Thursday evening to advance to the championship game.
 
No. 1 Maine got a score in each half and held off No. 4 UMass Lowell to post a 1-0 victory while No. 2 UNH battled back from down a goal to post a 2-1 win over No. 3 Binghamton.
 
The two teams, who finished one-two in the conference standings, will meet for the league title on Sunday, Nov. 10 at Maine’s Mahaney Diamond. Kickoff will be at 3:05 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN+.

#1 Maine 2, #4 UMass Lowell 0
  • Maine took an early lead as Kayla Kraemer found the back of the net just 4:51 into the contest.
  • Emma Schneider fed a pass to Jordane Pinette in the right corner. The second-team all-conference standout sent a cross into the box where Kraemer blasted home her fourth goal of the year.
  • UMass Lowell came out aggressive in the second half and put early pressure on the Black Bears.
  • Maine withstood the storm and added to their lead in the 69th minute as Lara Kirkby sent a cross from sideline into the middle of the six for Abbey Thornton, who put home the shot for a 2-0 advantage.
  • Freshman Grace Wilson was solid in net, securing the win with one save. Taylor Burgess took the loss for the River Hawks but was strong with eight saves.
  • This will be Maine’s second-straight championship game appearance.
 
#2 New Hampshire 3, #3 Binghamton 1
  • Binghamton jumped out to the early advantage on Mackenzie Ryder’s goal in the 10th minute. She one-timed home a feed from Isabella Martillo to stake her team to the 1-0 lead.
  • That score held until Elizabeth Finn scored the first of her two goals in the 32nd minute as she buried a feed from America East Striker of the Year Meghan Guarente.
  • UNH, which improved to 12-4-1, took the lead just 11:33 later on Abbi Maier’s goal, which was set up by Finn.
  • Finn added an insurance tally in the 66th minute to ensure the victory.
  • UNH doubled Binghamton up on shots, 16-8.
  • This will be UNH’s second finals appearance in the last three years.
