#AEVB Week 11: Binghamton Takes Over First

BOSTON – Binghamton earned a pair of clutch victories to take over sole possession of first place this past weekend, while UMBC secured its spot in the #AEVB Championship with just one game left in the regular season.

Need to Know
  • Binghamton started the weekend with a sweep of UMBC. On Sunday, the Bearcats fell behind 2-0 to New Hampshire but rebounded to capture the final three sets and move into sole possession of first place at 7-2.
  • UAlbany came through with a victory in its lone contest of the weekend, sweeping NJIT to keep its #AEVB Tournament hopes alive.
  • On Sunday, the Retrievers fell behind 2-1 after losing the third set 25-24. They came back to take the fourth set 26-24 and then captured the fifth set 16-14.
  • The Bearcats' Tsvetelina Ilieva ranks ninth nationally averaging 4.7 kills/set and 10th in points/set at 5.49.
  • On Saturday, UAlbany travels to Bryant with the final playoff spot on the line. The winner will clinch the No. 4 seed in the upcoming #AEVB Championship.
  • On Sunday, Binghamton plays at NJIT, and the Bearcats will clinch the top overall seed and hosting duties with a victory over the Highlanders.
  • New Hampshire hosts UMBC on Sunday, with the winner earning the No. 1 or No. 2 seed and the loser will be locked into the No. 3 seed.

Weekly Award Winners – Nov. 12
Player of the Week
Tsvetelina Ilieva, Binghamton – Sr., Outside Hitter, Sofia, Bulgaria
  • Averaged 4.9 kills and 3.0 digs per set as Binghamton took over sole possession of first place with two victories.
  • Finished with 10 kill, seven digs and three blocks in a sweep of UMBC and then added 20 kills, 17 digs and three blocks in a 3-2 comeback victory against UNH.
  • This is Ilieva’s sixth #AEVB Player of the Week honor this season.
 
Setter of the Week
Lottie Scully, Binghamton – Jr., Setter, Hurdle Mills, N.C.
  • Averaged 11.1 assists and 4.3 digs per set as Binghamton took over sole possession of first place with two victories.
  • Posted 40 assists and 18 digs in a 3-0 sweep of UMBC and followed it up with 49 assists and 16 digs in a 3-2 comeback against UNH.
  • This is Scully’s fifth #AEVB Setter of the Week honor this season.
 
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Aysia Miller, UMBC – Gr., Libero, Mililani, Hawaii
  • Averaged 5.0 digs per set in a 1-1 week for the Retrievers.
  • Had 28 digs in a 3-2 victory against Bryant to clinch a playoff spot and added 12 more in a 3-0 loss to Binghamton.
  • This is Miller’s fourth #AEVB Defensive Specialist honor of the season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Viktoria Dimitrova, Binghamton – Fr., Right Side Hitter, Sofia, Bulgaria
  • Averaged 3.1 kills per set while hitting .200 in a 2-0 week as Binghamton took over sole possession of first place.
  • Hit .258 with 12 kills, three digs and three blocks in a 3-0 sweep of UMBC and then chipped in 13 kills in a 3-2 comeback win against UNH.
  • This is Dimitrova’s second-career #AEVB Rookie of the Week honor.
