Swimming & Diving 11/12/2024 1:00:17 PM #AESD Week 6: UMBC Claims Four Awards BOSTON – Four #AESD programs competed this past weekend, highlighted by UMBC taking down VMI in a tri-meet. The Retrievers won 178-21 against VMI, while NJIT fell 156.5-137.5 against the reigning MAAC Champions from Fairfield. Binghamton lost in its only meet, 149-94 to Cornell This weekend VMI hosts the Keydet Invite, while Bryant competes in a tri-meet with Brown and UPenn at Brown. 2024-25 #AESD Weekly Award Winners – Nov. 5 Female Swimmer of the Week Ashley Gutshall, UMBC – So., Royersford, Pa. Won a pair of events, the 50 free (24.12) and 200 back (2:14.55) this past weekend. Anchored winning 200 medley relay as well. This is Gutshall’s first #AESD Swimmer of the Week honor this year. Female Diver of the Week Joella Mills, UMBC – So., North Attleboro, Pa. Won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 227.93 and placed second in the 3-meter with a score of 227.10. This is Mills’ first #AESD Diving of the Week honor this season. Female Rookie of the Week Nicol Davanzo, UMBC – Fr., Hungary Won the 200 IM in 2:21.69 and took third in the 50 free in 25.43 this past weekend. This is Davanzo’s second #AESD Rookie of the Week honor. Male Swimmer of the Week Sam Deemer, NJIT – Sr., Connoquessing, Pa. Took second in the 200 back against Marist with a time of 1:48.68, two seconds, faster than any other swimmer in the America East this season. Also took second in the 100 back (50.83) and swam the 200 IM (1:55.83). This is Deemer’s third #AESD Swimmer of the Week honor this season. Male Diver of the Week Isaac Poole, UMBC – Gr., Shoreline, Wash. Won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events this past weekend. Won the 1-meter is a score of 335.25 and the 3-meter with a total of 272.03. This is Poole’s fourth #AESD Diving of the Week honor this year. Male Rookie of the Week Borys Endlé, NJIT – Fr., Mulhouse, France Won the 200 breast with a school record time of 2:00.67, which is also the best time in the league this year. Finished with a time of 1:54.63 in the 200 IM as well.
