#AEFH Week 6: Maine & UNH Improve to 2-0 in #AEFH Action

BOSTON – Maine and New Hampshire both took care of business at home this past weekend to sit atop the league standings at 2-0 with UAlbany.
 
Need to Know:
  • The Wildcats started the weekend with a 3-2 victory over UC Davis and then fell 3-2 to Northeastern.
  • Maine, meanwhile, beat the Aggies 3-1 in its only contest of the weekend.
  • UMass Lowell was the lone #AEFH squad to go 2-0 last week, shutting out Bryant 4-0 and then taking down LIU 3-1 in a pair of home contests.
  • No. 13 UAlbany shut out Hofstra 3-0 on Friday, but fell 2-0 to No. 7UConn on Sunday afternoon.
  • This coming Friday, UMass Lowell hosts Maine at 3 p.m., matching up the 2023 co-regular season champions against the 2022 regular season champions. The Black Bears then welcome Holy Cross on Sunday.
  • UAlbany seeks to stay perfect against Bryant on Friday and then travels to Lehigh on Sunday, while New Hampshire welcomes Vermont on Friday.
  • The top six teams will face off in the #AEFH Tournament from Nov. 7-10 on the campus of the top overall seed. View Championship Central for the full schedule of games.

Offensive Player of the Week
Sophia Drees, Vermont – Sr., Midfielder,  Bremen, Germany
  • Recorded three goals and one assist in a 7-0 victory over Dartmouth.
  • Notched first career hat trick on six shots and helped defense earn a shutout.
  • This is Drees’ first #AEFH Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Merle Vaandrager, Vermont – Fr., Goalkeeper, Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • Earned a shutout in her only contest last week with seven saves.
  • Extended shutout streak to 150 minutes and saved a penalty stroke in the fourth quarter to preserve the shutout against Dartmouth.
  • This is Vaandrager’s second #AEFH Defensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Faye Meijer, New Hampshire – Fr., Midfield, Purmerend, Netherlands
  • Tallied one goal and one assist in a 1-1 week.
  • Finished with one goal and one assist in an #AEFH win over UC Davis.
  • This is Meijer’s second #AEFH Rookie of the Week honor.
