#AEXC Week 6: UMBC, UMass Lowell, & UNH Earn Weekly Awards After Paul Short Invitational

BOSTON – On Saturday, the America East was well represented at the 50th Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University. Binghamton, UMBC, UMass Lowell, New Hampshire, and NJIT all competed at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. 

Looking ahead, Maine and UMass Lowell will compete in the Bruce Kirsch Invitational hosted by Franklin Pierce on Friday afternoon. Saturday, Bryant, New Hampshire, and Vermont will participate in the NEICAAA Championships in Hopkinton, N.H., while Maine will return to action at the Husson Invitational. 

Meanwhile, NJIT will host the Mets Championships and Highlander Invitational at Branch Brook Park on Saturday. 

2024 #AEXC Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 7 
Female Performer of the Week
Mary-Kate Finn, UMass Lowell – Jr., Nashua, N.H. 

  • Finn excelled in the Women’s 6k Gold Paul Short Run with a time of 20:38.1. 
  • Finished 23rd out of 371 runners and fourth-best junior time in the race.  

Female Rookie of the Week 
Bailey Hall, New Hampshire – Fr., Yardley, Pa.  

  • Placed 31st out of 286 competitors at a time of 22:15.9 in the Women’s 6k Brown Paul Short Race.  
  • Hall ignited the Wildcats to their program’s first-team victory in the Paul Short Brown Division. 

Male Performer of the Week 
Jan Wouter van den Akker, UMass Lowell – Sr., Groningen, Netherlands 

  • The senior earned a personal-best time at 23:58.8 in the Men’s Gold 8k Paul Short Race. 
  • Secured a 23rd-place finish out of 374 runners in the race.  

Male Rookie of the Week
Daniel Danilovitz, UMBC - Fr., Moosic, Pa. 

  • Danilovitz finished 109th out of 374 runners with a time of 24.49.5 at the Paul Short Race. 
  • This is Danilovitz's third Rookie of the Week honor this year (9/3/24 & 9/17/24).
