#AESD Week 4: UMBC Claims Five Weekly Honors

BOSTON – The Binghamton men, Bryant women and New Hampshire women all earned victories over conference opponents last weekend to highlight a strong week of action.
 
Binghamton hosted Bryant, with the Bearcat men securing an impressive 232-121 win while the Bulldog women won 195-158. Elsewhere, New Hampshire hosted Vermont and the Wildcats earned a 183-117 victory. Maine hosted Maine Maritime.
 
On Friday, UMBC competes in quad meet with Loyola, Towson and Mount St. Mary’s on, along with New Hampshire at Central Connecticut.
 
Saturday, both UMBC and UNH continue their meets, while VMI begins its season and Binghamton travels to Bucknell.
 
2024 #AESD Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 29
Female Swimmer of the Week
Bruna de Padua, UMBC – Jr., Curitiba, Brazil
  • Had an impressive showing at the Thomas Murphy Invitational, with outstanding swims in the 200 free (1:49.78), 500 free (4:54.63), 100 back (57.00) and 200 back (2:02.69).
  • All four times are the best in the conference this year, including her 500 free which is 10 second faster than any other swimmer in the league.
  • This is de Padua’s second #AESD Swimmer of the Week honor this year.
 
Female Diver of the Week
Grace Blume, New Hampshire – So., Dedham, Mass.
  • Won both 1-meter and 3-meter diving events at CCSU this past weekend.
  • Finished with a 273.08 zone qualifying score in the 1-meter and a 244.43 score in the 3-meter.
  • This is Blume’s first #AESD Diving of the Week honor this season.
 
Female Rookie of the Week
Nicol Davanzo, UMBC – Fr., Hungary
  • Placed third in the 100 fly (55.96) and fourth in the 200 fly (2:06.34) at the Thomas Murphy Invitational.
  • The 100 fly time is the fastest in the league, while the 200 fly is the fifth fastest.
  • This is Davanzo’s first #AESD Rookie of the Week honor.
 
Male Swimmer of the Week
Marko Kovacic, UMBC – Gr., Bosnia & Herzegovina
  • Had four impressive swims in the 200 free (1:39.43), 500 free (4:37.06), 100 back (49.00) and 200 fly (1:47.46) at the Thomas Murphy Invitational.
  • Both the 100 back and 200 fly times are the best in the conference, while the two freestyle times are the second-best in the conference.
  • This is Lanfear’s second #AESD Swimmer of the Week honor this season.
 
Male Diver of the Week
Isaac Poole, UMBC – Gr., Shoreline, Wash.
  • Named Diver of the Meet after winning and setting the meet record in both the 1 meter and 3 meter events at the Thomas Murphy Invitational.
  • Finished 1st in the 3-meter with a score of 344.75 and then won the 1-meter with a score of 338.95.
  • This is Buonocore first #AESD Diving of the Week honor this year.
 
Male Rookie of the Week
Andrew McEachern, UMBC – Fr., Mckinney, Texas
  • Was impressive in the 100 free (47.45), 200 free (1:41.69) and the 500 free (4:38.73) at the Thomas Murphy Invitational.
  • The 500 free is the fourth fastest in the league, while the 200 free is the seventh fastest.
  • This is McEachern’s first #AESD Rookie of the Week honor.
