#AEVB Week 9: Four Teams Deadlocked Atop League Standings

BOSTON – With just three weeks remaining in the 2024 #AEVB regular season, the America East standings are as tight as can be. Four teams are deadlocked in a tie for first place as Binghamton, Bryant, UMBC and UNH are all 4-2, while UAlbany sits a game and a half back at 3-4.

  • UAlbany, Binghamton, Bryant and UNH all earned conference wins last week.
  • Bryant improved to 18-6 overall with a 3-1 win over NJIT on Friday.
  • Binghamton posted its second-straight 3-0 victory, downing UAlbany on Friday.
  • The Great Danes bounced back with a 3-2 win over UMBC on Sunday.
  • UNH swept NJIT, 3-0, on Sunday.
  • The Bearcats' Tsvetelina Ilieva ranks sixth nationally averaging 4.8 kills/set.
  • NJIT (0-7 in AE play) has been eliminated from championship contention.
  • The top four teams in the conference standings at the end of the season will qualify for the 2024 America East Volleyball Championship. Visit Championship Central for more information.

Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 28
Player of the Week
Hannah Serbousek, New Hampshire – Grad., Outside Hitter, Fort Collins, Colo.
  • Averaged 4.0 kills and 5.7 digs per set in a 3-0 sweep of NJIT.
  • Totaled 12 kills while hitting .423 and 17 digs in the win.
  • Had 12 kills, 13 digs and four service aces in a 3-0 sweep of NJIT.
  • This is Serbousek’s first  #AEVB Player of the Week honor of the season.
 
Setter of the Week
Lottie Scully, Binghamton – Jr., Setter, Hurdle Mills, N.C.
  • Averaged 10.3 assists per set in Binghamton’s 3-0 win over UAlbany
  • Chipped in five digs, four blocks, one service ace and one kill 
  • This is Scully’s third #AEVB Setter of the Week honor this season.
 
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Carrina Barron, Bryant – So., Libero, Tewksbury, Mass.
  • Averaged 4.0 digs/set in a 2-0 week.
  • Had 20 digs in a three-set sweep of NJIT.
  • This is Barron’s second #AEVB Defensive Specialist of the Week honor of the season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Claudia Llamas, UMBC – Fr., Outside Hitter, Barcelona, Spain
  • Totaled a career-high 13 kills on .393 hitting while playing the final four sets vs. UAlbany.
  • Also had eight digs and two blocks.
  • This is Llamas’ first-career #AEVB Rookie of the Week honor.
