The Weekend Preview: Oct. 25-27

BOSTON – Maine women’s soccer and UAlbany field hockey could both clinch No. 1 overall seeds and regular season titles this weekend, while there seems to be more uncertainty in #AEMSOC and #AEVB then every before.

Get caught up on all the action and check out the biggest games for each sport this weekend to see what is at stake.

Field Hockey
Friday
UMass Lowell at UNH – 2 p.m.
No. 14 UAlbany at Maine – 3 p.m.
Bryant at Vermont – 3 p.m.

Sunday
Colgate at No. 14 UAlbany – 12 p.m.
Bryant at Holy Cross – 1 p.m.

Louisville at UC Davis – 2 p.m.

The penultimate weekend of #AEFH play is here with crucial playoff implications for every contest. No. 14 UAlbany can clinch at least a share of its second straight regular season title with a win at Maine today. The Great Danes would also claim the top overall seed and serve as the host for the #AEFH Championship in two weeks. They need to take down a Maine team which has dropped 3 of 4, but is 7-0 at home this season.

New Hampshire (3-1) has also clinched a playoff spot but could play their way into a top-two seed with a win and some help. They face a UMass Lowell squad which is 2-2 in league play and would secure a tournament berth with a win. Vermont (2-2) punches a ticket to the playoffs with a win, but has to battle a Bryant squad which took down Maine 4-3 in overtime last weekend.

Women’s Soccer
Sunday
UNH at UMBC – 1 p.m.
NJIT at Maine – 1 p.m.
UMass Lowell at Binghamton – 1 p.m.
Vermont at Bryant – 1 p.m.

Just two teams have clinched playoff berths and two more could secure their playoff spots with wins on Sunday. Maine, meanwhile, could claim the top overall seed in the tournament with a victory and some help from UMBC. New Hampshire (15 pts), meanwhile, could lock themselves into a top-two seed with a win or a tie against UMBC (4 pts).

UMass Lowell (9 pts) travels to Binghamton (10 pts) and a win by either team would secure a playoff berth. The Bearcats could also clinch a spot with a tie, while UMass Lowell could get in with a draw if both UVM and UMBC lose or tie. Vermont (9 pts) could also secure a berth with win at Bryant (9 pts). The Bulldogs would also get in with a win as they seek their first-ever #AEWSOC berth.

Men’s Soccer
Saturday
NJIT at UMass Lowell – 6 p.m.
UNH at UAlbany – 6 p.m.
Vermont at UMBC – 7 p.m.

Sunday
Binghamton at Bryant – 4 p.m.

Just three game dates remain in the regular season and only one team can secure an #AEMSOC Tournament berth this weekend. First place Vermont can take one step closer to their first regular season since 2017 with a victory at UMBC (4 pts). It won’t be easy as the Retrievers defend home field well and will be honoring their 2014 #AEMSOC Championship squad which reached the College Cup.

UMass Lowell (4 pts) looks to defend its home turf against NJIT (6 pts) and move back into playoff positioning. A win would put the River Hawks back in the playoff hunt before they finish the season against UVM and UNH. UAlbany (3 pts)  looks to get back in the playoffs and needs a victory against New Hampshire (7 pts) to start that journey. Binghamton (6 pts) plays at Bryant (6 pts) on Sunday and the winner of the contest will have an inside track towards at least one home playoff game.

Volleyball
Friday
Bryant at NJIT – 6 p.m.
Binghamton at UAlbany – 6 p.m.

Sunday
UNH at NJIT – 1 p.m.
UMBC at UAlbany – 3 p.m.

The standings have never been closer as just one game in the standings separates teams 2-5. There should be some separation this week with four contests. UAlbany (2-3) is sitting fifth right now but move back into the playoff picture with a pair of wins. The Great Danes host Binghamton (3-2) on Friday, before battling against UMBC (4-1) on Sunday afternoon.

On Friday, Bryant is at NJIT as the Bearcats seek to improve to 4-2. New Hampshire is also 3-2 and travels to face NJIT on Sunday. No team will be able to clinch a playoff spot until possibly next weekend.

Cross Country
With just one week until the conference championship on Nov. 2 and just two teams are in action on Friday. New Hampshire and UMass Lowell will both be racing in the CCSU Mini-Meet.

Swimming & Diving
On Friday, UMBC competes in quad meet with Loyola, Towson and Mount St. Mary’s, along with New Hampshire racing at Central Connecticut. Saturday, both UMBC and UNH continue their meets, while VMI begins its season and Binghamton travels to Bucknell.
