#AEWSOC Week 10: Playoff Picture Coming into Focus as Maine, UNH Clinch Bids

BOSTON – With just 10 days remaining in the 2024 America East women’s soccer regular season, the playoff picture is starting to take shape. Maine and New Hampshire both secured spots in the tournament last week while six other teams are fighting for the other four bids.

Need to Know
  • Maine stayed perfect in league play and extended its win streak to eight games with a 1-0 win over UAlbany on Sunday. The Black Bears are a league-best 10-1-2 on the season.
  • With the win, Maine secured a top-two seed and quarterfinal round bye for the America East Championship and will host a semifinal match on November 7.
  • The Black Bears are the first America East team to start conference play with six consecutive wins since Boston University did it in 2012.
  • Maine’s eight game win streak is the longest by an America Esat team since 2021 and is tied for the third-longest active streak in the nation.
  • UNH beat Bryant, 2-0, on Sunday to lock up a spot in the championship. It marks the 10th-straight full season the Wildcats have qualified.
  • Sally Rainey recorded her ninth shutout of the season in net, which is the seventh-most in the country.
  • Binghamton extended its unbeaten streak to four games with a tie vs. NJIT on Thursday and a 3-0 win over Vermont on Sunday. The Bearcats sit in third place in the league standings with 10 points and can secure a spot in the tournament with a win or a tie in either of its final two games.
  • After starting the season 1-9-2, UMass Lowell has won three-straight games to put to put itself in playoff contention. The River Hawks have outscored opponents 6-0 in the three wins.
  • NJIT is the lone team that has been eliminated from championship contention.
  • The top six teams in the conference standings at the end of the regular season will earn America East championship bids. All games will be played at the higher seed. Check out Championship Central for more information.
 
Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 21

Offensive Player of the Week
Hannah Mimas, Binghamton – Sr., Forward, Baldwinsville, N.Y.
  • Totaled four points in Binghamton’s lone game of the week, a 3-0 win over Vermont on Sunday.
  • Factored in on all three Bearcats goals, scoring one and assisting on the other two.
  • This is Mimas’ first career #AEWSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Taylor Burgess, UMass Lowell – Gr., Goalkeeper, Mendon, Mass.
  • Stopped all eight shots she faced and recorded shutouts in two key UMass Lowell wins last week.
  • Had three stops to help snap UNH’s five-game win streak on Thursday.
  • Made eight saves in a 2-0 win over NJIT on Sunday.
  • This is Burgess’ second #AEWSOC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season and xx of her career.  
 
Rookie of the Week
Anna Buckwalter, Binghamton – Fr., Midfielder, Birdsboro, Pa.
  • Had a goal and an assist in two games last week.
  • Set up Binghamton’s lone goal in a 1-1 tie vs. NJIT on Thursday.
  • Scored the first goal of the game, which proved to be the game winner, in a 3-0 win over Vermont on Sunday.
  • This is Buckwalter’s fourth #AEWSOC Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
