#AEFH Week 7: No. 13 UAlbany & UNH Stay Perfect in Conference Play

BOSTON – No. 13 UAlbany shut out Bryant, while New Hampshire took down Vermont in overtime as both improved to 3-0 in league play with half of the conference schedule complete.
 
The Great Danes locked down Bryant 3-0 on Friday and then took down Lehigh 2-1 on a late goal by Sophia Schoonmaker, improving to 11-2 overall this season. UNH needed overtime but edged Vermont to improve to 3-0 in #AEFH action, while UMass Lowell shot past Maine 5-1.
 
Need to Know:
  • In non-conference action on Sunday, Maine shut out Holy Cross.
  • Midway through league play UAlbany and UNH are tied atop the standings at 3-0. The two teams square off on Friday at 2 p.m. in Durham with the winner taking hold of first place in the league.
  • The River Hawks have won three straight overall and are 2-1 in league play, tied with Maine for third.
  • In other conference action on Friday, Bryant hosts the Black Bears, while the River Hawks travel to Vermont. The Bulldogs will also face Queens on Thursday at home.
  • UC Davis travels west to battle No. 17 Iowa on Friday and then faces No. 2 Northwestern on Sunday.
  • All seven teams are in action in non-conference action on Sunday, highlighted by UAlbany traveling to battle No. 9 Boston College, looking for a second victory over a top-10 team this year.
  • UNH welcomes Boston University while Bryant hosts Colgate and Maine travels to Northeastern.
  • The top six teams will face off in the #AEFH Tournament from Nov. 7-10 on the campus of the top overall seed. View Championship Central for the full schedule of games.

Offensive Player of the Week
Tasmin Cookman, New Hampshire – Jr., Forward, London, England
  • Had two goals in a 3-2 overtime victory against Vermont.
  • Scored the game-tying goal in the 48th minute and then the game-winner in overtime to secure the victory.
  • This is Cookman’s sixth career #AEFH Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Alison Smisdom, UAlbany – Sr., Midfielder, Antwerp, Belgium
  • Anchored a defense which allowed just one goal and seven total shots in a pair of wins.
  • Shut out Bryant with four shots allowed while scoring once.
  • Gave up one goal to Lehigh on the road and four shots. Scored once.
  • This is Smisdom’s first #AEFH Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Abby Johnson, New Hampshire – Fr., Goalkeeper, Walpole, Mass
  • Made five saves in a 3-2 overtime victory against Vermont.
  • Stopped five shots in 69 minutes as UNH came back from a 2-1 deficit in the 4th quarter.
  • This is Johnson’s second #AEFH Rookie of the Week honor.
