#AEVB Week 5: Four Programs Start League Play 1-0

BOSTON – League play began last week which saw Binghamton, Bryant, UMBC and UNH get off to 1-0 starts.


Need to Know
  • Binghamton and Bryant kicked off conference play with wins on Friday as the Bearcats beat UAlbany, 3-0, and the Bulldogs knocked off NJIT, 3-0.
  • UMBC and UNH followed suit on Sunday as the Retrievers beat the Highlanders, 3-1, and the Wildcats knocked off the Great Danes, 3-0.
  • America East teams wet 7-1 in non-league play last week with the only loss coming to top-ranked Pittsburgh.
  • Binghamton, Bryant and UNH all tacked on a pair on non-league wins, while JNIT also earned a victory.
  • The #AEVB preseason poll and All-Conference teams were announced on August 12 - link.
 
Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 1

Player of the Week
Tsvetelina Ilieva, Binghamton – Gr., Outside Hitter, Sofia, Bulgaria
  • Averaged a league-best 6.2 kills/set at a .382 clip in a 3-0 week last week.
  • Totaled a conference-high 75 points.
  • Also contributed 2.8 digs per set.
  • Had 16 kills and 13 digs in Binghamton’s win over UAlbany on Friday.
  • This is Ilieva’s third #AEVB Player of the Week honor of the season and eighth of her career.
 
Setter of the Week
Lottie Scully, Binghamton – Jr., Setter, Hurdle Mills, N.C.
  • Averaged a league-high 11.7 assists and also contributed 2.8 digs per set in a 3-0 week.
  • Totaled 38 assists and averaged a whopping 12.7 per set in a sweep of UAlbany on Friday.
  • Followed that performance with a career-high 56 assists, the most of any #AEVB player this season, in a four-set win over LIU on Sunday.
  • This is Scully’s first #AEVB Setter of the Week honor of the season and ninth of her career.
 
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Carrina Barron, Bryant – So., Libero, Tewksbury, Mass.
  • Averaged a conference-best 5.5 digs/set & added 5 service aces in a 3-0 week.
  • Had a career-high 32 digs in a win over Dartmouth.
  • This is Barron’s second #AEVB Defensive Specialist of the Week honor of the season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Viktoria Dimitrova, Binghamton – Fr., RS, Sofia, Bulgaria
  • Had 3.0 kills/set at a .517 clip committing just 2 errors & contributed 7 blocks in a 3-0 week
  • This is Dimitrova’s first #AEVB Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
