BOSTON – Maine, UAlbany and UMBC all improved to 2-0 in conference play on Saturday, while UMass Lowell used an impressive first half to earn its first victory of the season.
Maine 60, Vermont 48 – Box Score
The Catamounts earned a 14-12 lead in the opening quarter, but the Black Bears outscored UVM 37-22 over the next two quarters to take control of the game. It was Vermont’s first #AEHoops loss in over a calendar year. Anne Simon led Maine with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Adrianna Smith added 15 points and seven boards. Keira Hanson paced the Catamounts with a career-high 20 points and six threes.
UAlbany 77, NJIT 36 – Box Score
It was another dominant performance for the Great Danes, who extended their win streak to nine games with a 41-point victory. They blew the game open in the second quarter, outscoring NJIT 28-6 for a 45-19 lead at the half. Four players scored in double figures, led by Helene Haegerstrand with 15 points and two rebounds. Meghan Huerter came off the bench to hit four threes and supply 14 points.
UMass Lowell 70, New Hampshire 53 – Box Score
The River Hawks earned their first victory of the season, jumping out to a 20-4 first quarter lead and holding a 37-14 advantage at the half. Four players scored in double figures for UML, led by Mili Carrera with 18 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals. Abbey Lindsey supplied 10 points five rebounds and four assists off the bench while Maddie Rice shot 7-for-9 for 14 points.
UMBC 64, Bryant 63 – Box Score
Laura Lacambra was the hero for UMBC as she rebounded her own miss and scored the game-winning layup with just 2.3 seconds left to propel the Retrievers to the one-point win. It was a back-and-forth contest throughout. Mariona Planes Fortuny had given the Bulldogs a one-point lead with just 12 seconds left before UMBC winner. Trinity Palacio had 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocks while Jaliena Sanchez added 14 points. Martina Boba paced Bryant with 24 points, three rebounds and three steals.
