Women's Basketball 1/31/2024 9:37:03 AM UAlbany Seeks to Stay Atop the #AEHoops Standings BOSTON – UAlbany has won 14 straight games and faces another tough test on Thursday against Vermont as we’ll hit the midway point of the women’s #AEHoops season by the end of the weekend. Bryant (3-4 AE) at UMBC (3-4 AE) – 6 PM The Bulldogs and Retrievers are currently tied for fourth place in the conference standings as we near the midpoint of the season. UMBC snapped a four-game losing streak with 72 points in a win over NJIT, while Bryant has won three of five games. The two teams met earlier this season in Smithfield, with UMBC pulling out the 64-63 victory as Laura Lacambra hit the game-winning layup with just three second remaining. UMass Lowell (3-4 AE) at Maine (6-1 AE) – 6 PM After falling to unbeaten UAlbany, the Black Bears rebounded with a tight 59-56 win over Binghamton this past Saturday. The River Hawks, meanwhile, have dropped three straight games after beginning league play 3-1. The two teams met in the first game of conference play, and the Black Bears earned the 55-43 win. UML actually led 19-18 after the first quarter, but couldn’t hold the lead. Maine’s Adrianna Smith currently ranks third in the nation with 15 double doubles Vermont (6-1 AE) at UAlbany (7-0 AE) – 7 PM The Catamounts put their five-game win streak on the line against the Great Danes who have won 14 consecutive games. Vermont hasn’t allowed more than 55 points during the win streak and won each of those games by at least 13 points. UAlbany hasn’t lost in over two months and has held three of its last four opponents to less than 50 points, as they lead the nation in scoring defense at 50.7 points per game. These teams last faced off for an America East title, with Vermont edging UAlbany 38-36, as a last-second three was off the mark. Binghamton (2-5 AE) at NJIT (0-7 AE) – 7 PM After tough stretch, the Highlanders look to secure their first conference victory at home against the Bearcats. They’ve put up 60+ points in each of their last two contests, but came up short against UMBC and Bryant. Binghamton has won 2 of 3 overall and four straight when scoring at least 60 points. Alejandra Zuniga leads NJIT in scoring (15.4), while Ella Wanzer is averaging a team-high 11.4 points per game for Binghamton.
