BOSTON – UAlbany withstood a tough Maine squad to take control of first place in the women’s #AEHoops standings, while Vermont, Bryant and Binghamton all came away with victories on Thursday night.
UAlbany 54, Maine 47 – Box Score
The Great Danes’ defense held Maine to just 19 points in the first half, taking a 26-19 lead. The Black Bears fought back in the third to pull within one point 35-34. However, they were never able to draw even as UAlbany held Maine to 28.1 percent shooting in the contest. Freshman Deja Evans led the team with 17 points, eight rebounds and six blocks, while Kayla Cooper had 10 points and six rebounds. Adrianna Smith led Maine with 17 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Vermont 62, UMass Lowell 53 – Box Score
It was a slow start for both teams but the Catamounts eventually took control with a 26-19 lead at the half and then extended the lead to nine after three quarters. Anna Olson was 9-for-12 from the field for 20 points, ten rebounds and two blocks, while Emma Utterback had 17 points, six assists and three steals. Sydney Watkins led UMass Lowell with 16 points.
Bryant 73, NJIT 64 – Box Score
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 45-27 lead at the break. However, NJIT fought back in the third and used an 11-1 run between the third and fourth quarters to cut the deficit to just 61-56 with 6:15 remaining. Bryant answered with seven straight to put the game out of reach as Mariona Planes Fortuny finished with 25 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four blocks. Kemari Reynolds added 14 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. Alejandra Zuniga had 18 points and five rebounds for NJIT.
Binghamton 73, New Hampshire 63 – Box Score
The offense was flowing for the Bearcats as they grabbed a 44-28 lead at the half and pushed the lead as high as 22 points in the fourth quarter before finishing with the 10-point victory. Ella Wanzer was 6-for-8 from three and finished with 24 points while Jadyn Weltz added eight points, six rebounds and eight assists. Bella Stuart led UNH with 14 points, four rebounds and two steals.
